anaconda hangs after parport (FC2 & FC3)

Greetings, We have a couple of dual PIII Boxx Technologies boxes here that anaconda consistently hangs on shortly after the check media md5sum menu. We've tried both FC2 or FC3Beta boot media, and using the boot options such as "linux text noprobe" all to no avail. Right before the box locks up (hard, no capslock, ctrl-alt-del, no nothing), anaconda shows: on vt3: *inserted /tmp/parport.ko on vt4: <6>device-mapper: 4.1.0-ioctl (2003-12-10) init ... We've tried assorted SCSI controllers, VGA cards, etc, and every anaconda option we can find but nothing seems to work. (http://rau.homedns.org/twiki/bin/view/Anaconda/AnacondaISOLINUXOptions) Perhaps there is a way to cause anaconda to show more debugging output? Or to have it step through its install instructions one at a time? Any hints or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! Abe

buildinstall in RHEL 3

Running buildinstall from RHEL 3 Update 3's anaconda-runtime, the script does not check $? for each command it runs. If a loopback mount fails, it just keeps on going like nothing is wrong. Have any updates to anaconda-runtime for RHEL 3 fixed these issues? I wasted a ton of time because buildinstall's loopback mounts were failing and I finally remembered why. We have /tmp mounted as tmpfs by default in our environment and loopback mounts don't work if you try to mount -o loop to /tmp/makebootdisk.tree.19705, for example. I've rebooted with tmpfs disabled in order to run buildinstall. Are patches accepted for RHEL 3's anaconda-runtime or only for CVS head? I am having a similar problem. I have been building custom CD's since FC2 Test 1 and updating it to each new release as it came out until the FC2 release. I could not risk doing any of the FC3 test releases because they could have been unstable. So I have been trying to update to FC3 now and I am having the same problem as described below. I did notice one error/warning? message about there not being a dev package before the warning about "not all packages in hdlist had order tag". Could the no dev package thing have anything to do with the problem? I am going to see how my procedure for pkglist varies from the one outlined below (I can't remember since I wrote the script 9 months ago), perhaps that will fix the problem. I was just wondering if the dev package thing is normal now that there is udev? Custom remaster of FC3, anaconda errors on install

Thanks for the quick replys yesterday... Obviously we're new to this (but making progress). Our goal is to create a minimized single CD distro with hands-off (kickstart) install. Therefore we have elliminated packages we do not need (dependency check passes). Working with Fedora CORE 3 and have followed steps in several available online documents: http://rau.homedns.org/twiki/bin/view/Anaconda/AnacondaDocumentationProject and http://bipolar.longbros.com/index.php?blog=5&p=29&c=1&page=1&more=1&tb=1&pb… but have settled on this because it looks like what we are trying to accomplish: http://insipid.com/RHOneCD.pdf We added our custom rpm's to the /RPMS/ dir and called them from ks.cfg but the install failed with "packaege does not exist" so we removed the calls from ks.cfg (packages remain the /RPMS/). We were able to create an ISO and boot it w/in VMWare, however, it dies at the very end of "Preparing RPM Transaction" with "Install exited abnormally". Documents above conflict on wheter or not it is necessary to modify .discinfo and/or comps.xml (since we have removed/added rpm's). Any ideas why anaconda may be crashing at this stage? "If you remove the i386 package from the tree, the i686 package isn't used automatically, and it will be very confusing for the whole afternoon, until you realize the reason it's saying /usr/bin/anaconda isn't found even though it's clearly *right there in the stage2.img* is that there's _no libc_, duh. And it's _really_ not worth hacking upd-instroot to make it work; just put the %#$ing thing back." Also: "The upside of being the only one working in the entire building is: Ramones, really really loud." buildinstall error while remaster FC3 CD

Following the directions posted at: http://bipolar.longbros.com/index.php?blog=5&p=29&c=1&page=1&more=1&tb=1&pb… To "remaster" FC3 CD's and encountered the buildinstall error (below) on step 9. Any ideas? In my earlier efforts to bring up my problem i was unable to describe the thing exactly.
