Updating HOWTO

I have created a simple HOWTO for updating and recreating the Fedora Core 3 distribution CDs. It also includes information on creating DVDs instead of CDs as well as creating (and optionally expanding) the RescueCD. This document can be seen at http://czarc.net/HOWTO-Updating-fc3.html Before generally publishing this document, I thought some of the folks on this mailing list could comment and provide feedback to any errors I have made. I have not tried this with the FC-development (FC4) and would be interested in any differences which I could incorporate into the document. Gene

Problems with Compat Arch Support group

I've having problems with the "Compatibility Arch Support" group on x86_64 kickstarts. We generate comps.xml from scratch and our Compat Arch Support group contains all the biarch RPMs and the "biarchonly" flag is set to true (the group looks the same as the stock comps.xml). The problem is the biarch RPMs are not getting installed in the proper order. Sometimes the i386 RPMs get installed after the x86_64 RPMs, so they take precedence (and break the system). How can I debug this further? Is there somewhere I can instrument Anaconda's code to figure out the problem? This happens with RHEL 3 Update 2, 3 and 4. Additional CD structure

Hallo, I would like to create an additional CD for Fedora Core to be able to install smore packages that are not in default installation of FC3. Does anybody know what structure I have to fulfill? rebuilding Fedora Core 3 - strange errors

Hi all. I've got such errors: Unknown file type (unallocated) /RH-FC3-tree/i386/images/isopath/.. when running buildinstall script. As a result of it, the newly build iso images cannot boot. Does anybody knows what's going on? I've found a bug in bugzilla but it i sin WONTFIX state :( when runninng another script I've got: Scrubbing trees... /tmp/treedir.13027/image-template /RH-FC3-tree/i386/buildinstall.tree.13014/upd-instroot: line 989: 14243 Segmentation fault rm -f libnss_files.so.1 libnss_dns.so.1 Scrubbing trees... /tmp/treedir.13027/instimage /RH-FC3-tree/i386/buildinstall.tree.13014/upd-instroot: line 989: 15098 Segmentation fault rm -f libnss_files.so.1 libnss_dns.so.1 How can the RM command die with SIGSEGV ?? Proposed patch - mac eject

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=147272 Any reason if we hit this case we shouldn't always eject the CD? I think this is why we don't eject with boot.iso on mac. Paul

Thank You very much. For now I am searching a way to add armenian locale... There is no armenian locale in FC3, and I have compiled and added to the my system it myself. A far as I understand, I should recompile glibc to add armenian locale, but didn't yet clearly know how should I do it. And a second question, that how can I ad armenian locale to the list of languages, in which anaconda can do installation. For example I can cp russion po file to armenian and edit it. But how can I add it to anaconda? And where is that console font that I have to change ( because I am pretty sure in that font there isn't armenian letters) Thank You very much again. patch: fix typo in autopart.py

bug or feature

Should I be able to use anaconda-runtime to create DVD images (instead of CD images)? Specifically, should splittree.py be able to splits things into a total of 2 directory trees (rather than 8 for CD images)? I have submitted this as a bug -- https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=148963 However, should I change that to an RFE for doing DVDs? Gene

Thanks for reply, But still nothing USB here except the Keyboard, i'll try out the system wihtout the USB keyboard, in, but the keyboard is working simply very fine, thruout the installation system, till it comes over crashing.
