[PATCH] FC4 cannot load driver disk image on a disk partition

Hello, I tried to load driver disk image on a partition in USB storage device. (/dev/sda1:dd.img) But It failed. Steps to Reproduce: 1. create driver disk image (dd.img) 2. put dd.img on USB storage device partition (/dev/sda1) 3. start FC4 installer with "linux dd" 4. select driver disk source as /dev/sda1 and choose the file "dd.img" Actual results: anaconda went wrong stage. anaconda displays: ---| Insert Driver Disk |--- Insert your driver disk into /dev/sda and press "OK" to continue. Expected results: Successfully load from driver disk image. install aborting- parted.error: unknown file system type

I'm building an updated Fedora Core 3 installation CD set. Built it. Hi All, I found four kernel RPMS are in Fedora Core2 CD, such as 1. kernel-2.6.5-1.358.i686.rpm 2. kernel-smp.2.6.5-1.358.i686.rpm 3. kernel-2.6.5-1.358.i586.rpm 4. kernel-smp.2.6.5-1.358.i586.rpm I am looking for a minimal fedora core2 customized CD. So which kernel RPM shall I include in my customized CD. What is the difference between kernel and kernen-smp? regards Susant

How do I get the Anaconda Adbox Slideshow operating again like in RH9?

I would like to add the Adbox Slideshow back into Anaconda.... Looking at a static graphic while installing is boring.... I have managed to get "rnotes" back into stage2.img (under usr/share/anaconda/pixmaps/ - I think that is where it is supposed to be.... ), but when progress_gui.py runs during an install, the slideshow just doesnt run..... Obviously, I am missing something.... My distro is slightly modified Fedora Core 3 and Anaconda is 10x rebuilt from source.... Can someone give me a clue? TIA WPH

PC not booting after installation

Hi All, I am trying to create my own customized Fedora core2 CD which have only minimum number of packages. Following steps I did. 1. First I copied all fedora core cd1 dump in to fedora/i386 2. Deleted all the RPMS from RPM directory. 3. I copied only core, base, dialup section RPMS in to fedora/i386 RPM directory. 3. Then I generated hdlist. 4. pkgorder. 4. build install. Everything gone fine and I create the ISO image of the same. 5. Written the cd. 6 All the installation steps gone fine with out any warning and error. But after installation my PC is not booting error "Boot record not found" Please help me what i am doing wrong? how do i proceed. regards Susant

Any help will be appreciated regards Manilal I was trying to produce a customised single disk distribution. I couldn't get the getnotincomps.py to work at all. I wanted it to tell me what I didn't need in my distro. I never solved this problem but Dan Trainor made an excellent suggestion. Do a web install then look at the web log for the rpms that got installed. I did this from a local machine and this combined with some other things worked well for me. I'm still interested in finding out how to get getnotincomps.py to work. Thanks, Hello, Oisin - What I've been doing, is an HTTP-based kickstart, parsing the logs of the files that were downloaded for the install that I had configured, then simply copied those files and only those files to by "real" RPMS/ directory. I realize that you don't want to do network kickstart installs for all these kiosks. What I'm saying is, at least do a single HTTP-based install, watch your web server logs, find out which RPMs and only which RPMs are installed by your kickstart configuration, and use those and only those RPMs in your RPMS/ archive. I've never, to this day, gotten getnotincomps.py to work. Hope this helps -dant

Announce: pylibparted project

Hi, I'm developing a project named pylibparted that aims to provide python bindings for parted's library (libparted). This project was accepted in Google's Summer of Code and it's being mentored by Fedora. I already have a snapshot available for testing that can be downloaded from pylibparted.tigris.org. I hope this project can be useful for installers such as anaconda, GLI (Gentoo) and others. If possible, I'd like that some anaconda developer could criticize pylibparted's API, so it can be really useful. :-) Best, -- Ulisses

Automatic partitioning failed allocation errors

I'm getting a report of a problem very similar to <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=129528> and <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=140433> in my RHEL4 U1-based anaconda. I've got a lot of patches, including some that mess with autopartitioning, so it's very likely I screwed something up. I can't reproduce on *my* test systems, though, so I'm stretching for clues. Bug #129528 is noted to be a dupe of #131325, to which unfortunately I don't have permissions. (Could the secrecy on that be relaxed?) And #140433 is reportedly fixed, but the explanation is just that it was fixed, with no helpful details. Apparently happens with autopartitioning, but works with manually partitioning, but when the config generated by that manual partitioning is used in a kickstart script, that fails again.
