what is storage.protectedDevices?

Hi, all https://github.com/pyKun/install.img/blob/master/usr/lib/anaconda/storage/_… this is an old version anaconda, but I just need know the meaning of this line. In my case, I used 'repo=hd:......' so anaconda.protected here valuate as true in L93, so when run to L97( my case is not livecd, and "not storage.protectedDevices"), the program looks me as upgrade case, so it checks anaconda.id.getUpgrade(). My case is installing a system from usb. Kickstart files, and repo are all from usb device. But how storage.protectedDevices means here? Thanks Gareth

Standard automated install problems?

Hi, I have made a testing with anaconda installer, and I would like to know why sets for root as fixed size to 50 gigs as default every time, when it's not used out completely even when you are the hardest coder? I tried it to take it in extreme way - I have installed tons of desktops, devel environments, and 50 gigs was really enough for everything, but df in root hasn't gone wild, and max was 45% from 50 gigs. Yep. Not even the half of the root is in use. Somewhere I have red also that mechanism not perfect, because it uses 50 gigs as a limit, and under it unifies the root and home - what is nice, just you are doomed when you have a old eg. 60 gigs HDD. Because in this case, no matter what, in automated install will cut down 50 gigs, and 10 gigs for home?? So, my question is wouldn't be easier to use a proportion method? Yum repo name?

Hi all I face a problem like name or yum repo after change .buildstamp. I change CentOS into uOS, and timestamp into 201307290151.x86_64. And following installation failed with: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: anaconda-uOS-201307290151.x86_64. Please verify its path and try again. But in my kickstart file, I have a line "repo --name=uOS --baseurl=file:/tmp/....." My anaconda version is 13.21.195 I really have repo as /tmp/xxx which is created by createrepo command, and it works before I changed .buildstamp file. The anaconda-uOS-201307290151.x86_64 looks like a name of that repo. But I'm not sure for that. Can anyone give me some hink? Great thanks! Gareth

how to export ANACONDA_PRODUCTNAME?

Hi developers, I need custom some keywords in anaconda install steps. I read codes and find such product name will find os.environ first. That means I need export something like ANACONDA_PRODUCTNAME before anaconda install. But I didn't find out how to do it. I tried add 'export ANACONDA_PRODUCTNAME=xx' in %pre scripts and boot options. Both didn't work. Thanks Gareth

Language and locale selection

I've started work on modifying our Welcome and Langsupport spokes to allow users choose from all locales we support for the languages we have translations for. The locale (e.g. "en_US.UTF-8") is what we want to know, so we should ask for it and give users full lists of available locales (like also "en_GB.UTF-8", "en_AU.UTF-8", etc.). There are many bugs and complaints that there is no way to select such locales in the installer right now. The code is quite simple and we already have it in the new version of the pyanaconda.localization module, but I'm quite struggling with the UI layout. I started with simply adding another tree view with locales [1], but that looks weird. [1] http://vpodzime.fedorapeople.org/lang_locale_selection.png Any ideas how to make it look better? I was thinking about having two vertical tree views instead of horizontal. Linux Plumbers IO & File System Micro-conference

Linux Plumbers has approved a file and storage microconference. The overview page is here: http://wiki.linuxplumbersconf.org/2013:file_and_storage_systems I would like to started gathering in ideas for topics. I have been approached already with a request to cover the copy_range work Zach Brown kicked off at LSF which I think is a great topic since it has impact throughout the stack, all the way up to applications programmers. A similar request was made to give some time to non-volatile memory devices and the proposed "persistent memory" backed block device and persistent memory file system from Intel. That also seems to fall in nicely with the plumbers mission statement since it clearly will impact everything from the application on down through the kernel. Last year, we had a good discussion on management of storage (anaconda, yast, libstoragemgt, etc) - that also might be worth giving updates on. how to install system without lvm partitions?

Hello masters: When i install CentOS to my disk throughing "Replace Existing Linux System(s)" method, anaconda will do auto partitions for the disk. It's a lovly function except the partitions is created in logical volume.... I'm trying to edit the anaconda's source code after unsquashfs the install.img, but it seems that is not a easy work to let anaconda do auto partitions without lvm. So every master, can you help me? I just want to let anaconda do _not_ part my disk into logical volume partitions. Which code should I edit? Thanks in advance.

Blivet & RAID10

Hi, I noticed in F19 that blivet does not support RAID10 with 2 or 3 devices. What is the reason for this? Sure, RAID10 on 2 devices is equal to RAID1. But if you add new device to RAID1, you get more mirrors, while adding new device to RAID10 adds more space + speed. I am really not system admin, is this valid use case or not? Jan

Accessibility BoF in GUADEC

Hi there ! I am Juanjo Marin, member of the GNOME accessibility team . I write to this list to inform you that we are going to have BoF about accessibility next August 6th in Brno, Czech Republic. In the past, blind users said Fedora needs sighted help in order to be installed. In Fedora 18, some users has reported some success and I guess and hope the situation is better in Fedora 19. Anyway, if any of Anaconda developers are around Brno August 6th, they are more than welcome to join us and discuss about accessibility problems.
