It is written for individuals who are unfamiliar with the default Fedora Desktop and who may be running their first Linux desktop. The guide's approach is simple. It explains basic principles by covering one principle at a time. The document does not assume familiarity with any Linux/UNIX-specific terminology or concepts. Functionality is also compared, where appropriate, to what the reader may know from other OSes, particularly Microsoft Windows. Users of this guide should have a standard Desktop class installation of Fedora, including a user account with the default settings. The elections for Fedora Documentation Steering Committee¹ (FDSCo) are open now and until 23:59 UTC, 26 February 2007. Voting is open to all members of the cvsdocs group in the Fedora Account System. To vote, refer to this URL: http://admin.fedoraproject.org/voting/vote.cgi You are allowed to cast UP TO 7 votes for your preferred candidates. You do not have to cast all 7, but you may not cast more than 7 votes. No revision of votes is allowed, so please check your selections before you commit your ballot. wiki upgrade

I'll be doing a wiki upgrade from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST) on February 21st (Wed). I'll be trying to minimize downtime and, in theory, the wiki won't be unavailable, just un-writeable. During our tests it has been determined that there are very few changes that need to be made so we'll just fix things as they come up. -Mike

Changes to fedora-advisory-board list

When the Fedora Advisory Board mailing list was first set up, it was put together in this way: 1) Archives 100% open to all 2) Non member posting is moderated 3) Member posting is non-moderated 4) Membership is by "approval". 5) People who want to lurk by not post could subscribe to fedora-advisory-board-readonly I've heard from a few people that this has been a source of confusion, and that people who otherwise want to participate on fedora-advisory-board aren't doing so, because they don't realize that we *want* them to participate. So, I've made some changes to the fedora-advisory-board list, effective this morning. Membership is now "confirm via email" rather than "moderater approved" so basically list subscription is now the same as all other Fedora lists. Still, fedora-advisory-board is the place where we like to have some of the higher-level decision making begin, but with the assumption that it will be pushed off to other lists as appropriate. This decision also has the potential to lead to increased traffic on the list. Let's keep the traffic on-topic and high in signal, versus noise. The list's job will be to police its own. *** NOTE *** I will kill off the fedora-advisory-board-readonly list on March 1. Folks who are on that list (and therefore reading this message) are encouraged to subscribe directly to fedora-advisory-board. Let me know if you have any questions. Fedora 7 Test 1 Release Notes ============================== An abridged, "one-sheet" version of the Release Notes for Fedora 7 test1 (6.90) is now available at the following URL: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F7Test1/ReleaseNotes For test1 and test2 releases, the Fedora Documentation Project does not release complete sets of release notes. A full set of release notes is released with test3, including a robust set of localizations provided by volunteer translators. This schedule allows us to make efficient use of volunteer resources for writing, editing, and translating content. The release notes process requires participation from documenters, developers, and other interested community members throughout the test release cycles. Hello there, As many of you, have heard about Fedora's presence in FOSDEM2007. We are now annoncing another FUDCon in 2007 which will be held there at FOSDEM, Brussels Belgium.
