The big takeaway from my perspective: we need as much help as we can get
to create an F12 image that boots on RHEL 5.5 + Xen. Then we take *that*
image and test it on EC2. It may well fail, since it appears that they're
running a Frankenstein RHEL 5.(0-2), but at least we'll be able to isolate
their failures, demonstrate that we've got our stuff working, and put
pressure on them to fix if need be.
<gregdek> OK, so to recap the plan:
<gregdek> * huff will post the latest ks and tools he's been using to get
latest image, to remind everyone of where we're at.
<gregdek> * others feel free to hack at the ks and build/test new images,
sending feedback to the list.
<gregdek> * eventually we'll get something that boots on rhel 5.5 xen.
<gregdek> * then we try to upload Teh Winnar to EC2.
<gregdek> * It will probably fail, at which point we'll throw it over the
wall to Amazon -- or maybe it'll work, in which case, WIN!
<gregdek> Is that about right?
<smooge> yes.
<huff> sounds good to me

How are the latest builds? Any roadblocks? Other such questions. :)

I'm doing some unexpected travel, so I'll be on an airplane during our
typical meeting time today. Does someone else want to take up the mantle,
or should we just meet up again next week?

5pm eastern US time, #fedora-meeting. Want to get an update on the latest
build attempts. Successful? And any other business that folks want to
discuss.

So we didn't really get quorum for a "real" meeting, but had an informal
chat between dhuff, jforbes, and myself on #fedora-cloud.
The upshot: the image problems we experienced with both boxgrinder and
appliance-tools was *not* Amazon-related, because the images would not
boot even on a local host. It's been determined that there are problems
with configuration of both selinux and fstab.
dhuff will tweak the ks files and run through appliance-tools again. If
it works, it should work on boxgrinder. dhuff will get an image to
jforbes to test tomorrow.
If it doesn't work, we should probably dig in on-list and not wait until
next week's meeting. A week is too much latency for these issues, I
think.

I've been buried, and I haven't seen any progress on the list -- but I
wouldn't mind having an informal meeting on #fedora-meeting at our regular
time to touch base on image creation. Where are we? What more do we know
about the brokenness of the images we've created? Who's actively working
on a fix? Is there anything we can do to chase?
So that's my agenda. If you're on #fedora-meeting in... 50 minutes, we'll
talk. :)

We have a meeting scheduled at 5pm eastern daylight time today, and I want
to get a sense of how useful we think it will be.
At last week's meeting, Bob McWhirter and David Huff both agreed to use
their respective toolchains to build a Fedora 12 image for EC2, and to
document their results; the goal is to figure out the best way of making
EC2 image creation an automagic part of the build process, and this is
essentially an evaluation.
Unfortunately, both had very similar problems with their F12 builds, and
Justin Forbes is pursuing these issues with Amazon.
Which means there's not much more to talk about on that front: we're
blocked until we can work with Amazon to figure out why we're seeing
breakage.
We've got the meeting time reserved, but I don't want to squander anyone's
time. If there are issues that anyone wants to discuss, I'm happy to have
the meeting -- if even one person sends agenda items, I'm willing to
convene a meeting. But if not, I'm also happy not to convene a meeting.
:)
