Eucalyptus packaging for fedora and Dependencies

Hi all, I have checked that there was a discussion which happened in this list regarding packaging eucalyptus for fedora. I took up this task of identifying what all packages are required for eucalyptus to be installed on a fedora box. I am trying to put the list of packages I have found are needed for a setup, please correct me if you think I am wrong. Main packages: euca-axis2c euca-rampartc eucalyptus eucalyptus-cc eucalyptus-cloud eucalyptus-common-java eucalyptus-gl eucalyptus-nc eucalyptus-sc eucalyptus-walrus groovy Dependencies: ant ant-nodeps java-1.6.0-openjdk httpd bridge-utils ntp dhcp httpd Please note that there had been a discussion on axis2c and rampartc to be included in fedora and check if the upstream is interested in doing that. I am not sure what happened in that front but just digging through the mailing list I have found this: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/cloud/2010-February/000058.html As far as I see eucalyptus folks are applying some patch sent by upstream to fix some memory leaks issue. Maybe the eucalyptus folks can comment on this leg. Meeting reminder, agenda, action items, and TIME CHANGE!

Hi everyone, Since there was no negative feedback about the "new" proposed time - we're going to try moving the Cloud SIG meeting one hour into the future, to be at its original time: Thursdays, at 2100 UTC. It looks like this will give us some additional people, so this should be a good thing. We'll also be able to utilize #fedora-meeting for this meeting now. Meeting time change proposal - move from 2000 UTC to 2100 UTC

Greetings everyone, I've spoken with a few other people who didn't respond to the original meeting time request, as well as looking at the meeting times Justin was able to get from the people who did respond. I'd like to propose that we move the meeting time forward by one hour, to 2100 UTC from 2000 UTC. (For those in North America, this is 5pm on the east coast, and 2pm on the west coast.) This will give us availability of a few more people, as well as the opportunity to utilize #fedora-meeting instead of being in #fedora-cloud, which generally gives us more visibility and the possibility of picking up more volunteers who like to lurk, watch, and pipe up (and hopefully help us out a bit). I realize that this time is still not optimal for community friends who are in other parts of the world (really late in europe, unreasonably early in some parts of APAC). I'm hoping that (a) as we gather more steam we can start to build more dialogue on the mailing list so that it's easier for people in other regions to participate, and (b) as we start nailing down a more firm task list we can identify some of those tasks in meeting notes and on the wiki so that one doesn't necessarily have to be in a meeting to volunteer to do things. We of course want to be including everyone, and non-meeting-time participation (aka: mailing list!) is a great way to build that up. If nobody has any serious objections over the next 24 hours to this proposal, I'll change the information on the wiki to reflect the change, and send an "it's official! we changed times!" note to the mailing list. Meeting agenda - now on wiki!

Greetings everyone, First - I'd like to reiterate that it was AWESOME to see lots of participation today (or yesterday, in some time zones!) in the Cloud SIG meeting on IRC. I realize that the meeting time is currently not the best option for some people who want to participate, and one of my items over the next few days is to figure out an even -more- optimal time for a meeting - I know that jforbes had sent out a request to find a good time for everyone, but unfortunately some people missed the message, and others who had haven't shown up since the meeting time changed based on their preferences. So you'll be seeing some information on that soon, probably tomorrow, as my pillow misses my head right now. :) With any luck, we can get a time where we can meet up in #fedora-meeting instead of #fedora-cloud, which generally helps to get more eyeballs, participation, momentum, etc. In the interim: I've added a subsection to the Cloud SIG wiki page in the meetings portion of the page so that people can see the upcoming meeting agenda, as seen here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_SIG#Meetings As you can see - I've added an agenda list to follow up on the action items from the previous week's meeting, just so we can make sure we're not leaving any loose ends. This should not take long - and in fact, if you're an owner of any of those items, feel free to note on the wiki if you've completed those items so we can skip those things, taking up less time. If your action item needs more love than the basic "done, not done, still working on it" type update - add the topic to the meeting agenda (more on that below). After that - the agenda is fairly open. I've added an item for kernel status, as that was the first thing covered today, and presumably we'll have (hopefully) more progress to update everyone on next week. Beyond that item... if you have an item you would like to discuss in the meeting, please feel free to add it to the wiki. More contributors = more stuff to cover in meetings. This is a -good thing-, but it helps to have a bit more structure as we scale in size, so we can accommodate everyone's needs and/or questions. Even today I felt a little bad about hijacking the meeting to ask "what the heck is going on?" without it being a planned discussion. (Sorry 'bout that!) >From what I can see - we've been doing agenda requests via email, but I think having it on the wiki may give those potential contributors browsing the wiki page a way to more concretely see what we're planning on discussing, without having to fish through mail archives if they're not currently subscribed. If something catches their eye that they're interested in doing, they'll hopefully come to the meeting and volunteer to take something on. Cheers, and see you next week! -Robyn

Cloud SIG Meeting time

Hi, In the list archives, I've seen that the Cloud SIG has recently moved to meeting at 2000 UTC - which conflicts with what's listed on the wiki, 2100 UTC (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_SIG#Meetings) Is this a permanent move in meeting time to 2000 UTC? -Robyn

Introduction: To Cloud SIG

Hi all, I would like to introduce myself to the group. Myself Deependra Singh. One can find more information about me here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Deepsa Been a channel operator of #fedora previously and currently working at Infosys Technologies at Bangalore (India) as a UNIX/Linux engineer. Also on weekends I talk fedora with people I meet on coffee shops (in daytime) and bars (in the evening). Planning to organize few fedora workshops in Bangalore area. Actively working the fedora ambassadors from Bangalore on the same. I am not that active Fedora project member but now would like to contribute to the Cloud SIG. I have been using eucalyptus on fedora for quite some time plus I have also worked on boxgrinder. Cloud computing domain is my primary interest these days. Previously I worked on Systems Security. I use fedora 13 with KVM. On top of that I have installed Eucalyptus 1.6.2 which just works for me! Please let me know if the SIG has any "TODO" stuff which needs to be taken care of. I am not good at packaging (never done it before) but if some work on that end also comes I will surely love to do that. Also please let me know when do we have the IRC meetups, I would love to join such meetups. Cheers Deependra

ec2 image status

Question to you folks about the status if ec2 images. This seems like an appropriate place to post this kind of general question, but if I'm wrong, please forgive me. I've read through the archives, and it seems like there's been some progress making images greater than fc8, but I don't see any links to any actual public images. Is there something available? More specifically, I've tried a yum upgrade path from fc8 to fc13 on ec2. It seems to work except for udevd, which fails because it needs a newer kernel than 2.6.21.7-2.ec2.v1.2.fc8xen. I expect there are probably other kernel dependencies that are broken, but I haven't yet found them. Is there an rpm for a newer xen kernel? Looking around, I've seen indications that 2.6.25 might be good enough for udevd to work. Any help or pointers are much appreciated.
