ANNOUNCE: oz 0.5.0 release

All, I'm pleased to announce release 0.5.0 of Oz. Oz is a program for doing automated installation of guest operating systems with limited input from the user. Release 0.5.0 is a bugfix and feature release for Oz. Some of the highlights between Oz 0.4.0 and 0.5.0 are: - Replace icicle-nc binary with a shell script to try various methods. Besides being more portable, this also allows us to convert Oz to a noarch RPM (thanks to Padraig Brady) - Support for Ubuntu 6.06 - Support for md5sum/sha1sum/sha256sum checking of ISOs after download - New -x flag for oz-install to write the libvirt XML file to a user-specified location (thanks to Steve Dake) - Support for OpenSUSE customization - Support for F-15 customization (thanks to Steve Dake) - Support for running commands at the end of package installation (thanks to Steve Dake) Fedora 14 and RHEL-6 packages are available for this release. Note that to install the RHEL-6 packages, you must be running RHEL-6.1 or later. Swift 1.4.0 build in koji

Hi folks, I have an updated openstack-swift build that brings it to 1.4.0 (I know, I know, 1.4.1 is out, but they did some things that I think weren't terribly appropriate for a point release including renaming binaries, stripping out the auth service, etc and besides it will take a bit of work to get 1.4.1 ready :) ) For the time being, openstack-swift should be usable, and 1.4.x is certainly what we should be targeting for F16. Image Factory version 0.2.1 released

The Image Factory team is pleased to announce the release of Image Factory version 0.2.1. Version 0.2.1 adds features and bugfixes needed to support the next step in the evolution of Aeolus. - VMware vSphere support has been added. - Support for snapshots of EC2 images on EBS has been added. - Importing images from providers has been added to both the command line and QMF interfaces. - Explicit support for rebuilding images without having to respecify the template. - Building and pushing images now supports multiple targets or providers in a single call rather than requiring one to repeat the call multiple times. (added in 0.2.0) - Source has been cleaned up and DRYed out. This is an ongoing, iterative process. owncloud packaging?

Hi guys, Apologies I haven't been able to attend the meetings since we changed the timeslot, I am sure you have all gotten on fine without me and my limited input though ;). I am currently evaluating ownCloud ( http://owncloud.org/index.php/Main_Page ) and am wondering if it is worth putting on the roadmap in Fedora somewhere down the track. I'm a bit dubious about how much of a 'cloud' tool this really is but that said I can see the benefits, particularly once they get integration with consuming applications which are already packaged going. There is also nothing to stop end users setting it up in such a way that it is a true cloud tool backed by redundant storage either - just that the current examples I can find all appear to be throwing it up on a single VPS. If you want to try it out you can get a free, basic (albeit old stable release) of it setup on packagecloud (Warning, referrer link: https://www.packagecloud.com/?au=owncloud) this is what I have done for now. I'm currently evaluating the development version in a VM at home to see what has/hasn't changed, unfortunately it really seems like a bit of a chicken and egg thing though as I don't think it will improve much in utility until they get the apps support sorted but I can see they are working at that. Note that it has a webdav interface as well as the HTML UI so you can access it using nautilus, firefox, etc. Thought I'd throw it in the ring and see what people think anyway. The developers appear to hang out in #owncloud on FreeNode if people want to ask them questions. Cheers, Steve

IGNORE PREVIOUS EMAIL FROM ME I discovered my bootstrapping script was still using the AMI ID from Fedora 14. Fedora 15 has an improved allocation, with ~10GB for /. THANK YOU for changing the allocation. You folks rock! Fedora 15 EC2 Images Availability

Hi, I've been using the Fedora 14 EC2 images since their release. I now look forward to upgrading my servers since Fedora 15 has come out, but I cannot find any information about the EC2 images. The EC2 Images page on the Fedora website lists only Fedora 14 images. The Cloud SIG page already contains information about Fedora 16 plans, but little to no information about Fedora 15. All I know is that there was a test day. Is there a release date for these images? Where can I find more information? Best Regards, Arcturus

All, I'm pleased to announce release 0.4.0 of Oz. Oz is a program for doing automated installation of guest operating systems with limited input from the user. Release 0.4.0 is a bugfix and feature release for Oz. Some of the highlights between Oz 0.3.0 and 0.4.0 are: - Automatic detection/use of cached JEOS images (the previous method required the user of the oz libraries to detect whether the image was cached or not) - Fixes to make Debian installs work for both x86_64 and i386 - Honor user-provided automatic installation files better, by not doing modifications - Use pyparted to generate partitions on newly created disks (if necessary) - Add support for Fedora 15 - Add the ability to supply an initial root/Administrator password to the diskimage - Abort installs after 5 minutes of disk inactivity - Use M2Crypto to generate SSH keys (if necessary) - Some pydoc documentation (more of this to come in the future) - Support for Ubuntu 11.04 - Support for RHEL-6.1 More documentation on Oz (including links on how to obtain it) is available here: http://aeolusproject.org/oz.html For this release, Fedora 14 and RHEL-6 packages are available. Note that I have stopped providing Fedora 13 packages, since that distribution is (or will be) out of support. Also note that to install the RHEL-6 packages, you must be running RHEL-6.1 or later.
