Hi all,
I'm following; Build and Install Engine RPM http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Build_%26_Install_RPM
to install oVirt on Fedora 17, 64bit. However some packages are already obsolete, such as maven2
Then I found; Installing maven http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Building_oVirt_engine
Both documents look similar.
But which subsequent steps shall I follow?
Is there a latest version of document on Fedora project for building oVirt? Please advise.
TIA
B.R. SL
Ovirt will be supported on Fedora 18 but you can use an external repository.

Hi rino,
Thanks for your advice.
I'm running Fedora 17 64bit here.
Is Fedora 18 officially released? http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/18/Schedule
I'm most concerned which document shall I follow to install oVirt, document from Fedora project OR from oVirt? The former document seems obsolete. Both documents look similar.

No. I'm fully aware.

I recommend you virt-manager using kvm..
I have an old box running KVM with Debian 7, 32bit as host. But there is only 4G RAM on that box.
I'm prepared building a new AMD 8 core box with 32G RAM. I have already finalized the configuration with hardware selected. I'll build this box when I have time. Then I'll test oVirt on KVM there if it can run on guest of a virtualizer.

Ovirt is a big project with a lot of part (se architecture) Please see the documentation to have an idea to know what you can do with ovirt http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/Architecture
Ovirt is a big scale solution !!! with a front end more professional video --> http://video.linux.com/videos/virtualization-management-the-ovirt-way

Ya I setup both for my Aeolus demo at the OLF [1] and both were on par as far as the complexity of the configuration needed.
A cloud is a complicated service involving orchestrating quite a few components that may be complicated in their own right. Still think there is alot of up in the air regarding cloud computing! Got this impression from the conference as well, everyone seemed to have a different preferred IaaS implementation including the two mentioned and more

Just curious as to why we can't do this. Can't we leverage qemu if running in a vm? Will this be alleviated when kvm supports virt-in-virt?

ovirt should be straight forward to install on fedora 17. also has an all-in-one mode which allows to get both engine and host on same phsyical machine. some are using it with nested kvm for testing.
if you have any issues setting it up, i suggest users@ovirt.org for help.

Use oVirt if you want a virtualized datacenter. Use OpenStack if you want a private cloud. Use virt-manager if you just want to manage a number of virtual machines on your desktop.

ovirt has full administration ui and should be more mature/robust on virt features.
They're really in a different space.
Use oVirt if you want a virtualized datacenter. Use OpenStack if you
want a
private cloud. Use virt-manager if you just want to manage a number of virtual machines on your desktop.
Thanks for your info.
I have been searching around on Internet the practical application of
both oVirt and OpenStack without result. It seems to me that they are still remaining in testing stage.

Thanks for your links.
What kind of service do you need to implement ? or just for testing??
I'm interested to find out their practical application with examples NOT theorectical
I'm not sure what do you mean by that statement - ovirt is the upstream project of red hat enterprise virtualization manager. maybe these docs will give you a better picture of ovirt: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/
My target on "testing" is to understand their installation and configuration. But finally I need to find out their practical application.
