TypeError: not enough arguments for format string

Hi, I am trying to run make-badges.py, http://shakthimaan.fedorapeople.org/pics/make-badges.py against http://shakthimaan.fedorapeople.org/pics/badge-template-pune.svg and I get the following error: $ python make-badges.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "make-badges.py", line 56, in <module> svg = page_template % page TypeError: not enough arguments for format string If I create a .svg with just text and without the logo images, then it generates the .pdf. What could be the problem? If I run Ian Weller's script against his .svg it creates the .pdf though: http://ianweller.fedorapeople.org/fudcon-badges/ Appreciate any help in this regard, Thanks! Joining the team and some updates

Hi, Its been a wonderful experience to do the artwork for FUDCon Pune with tremendous support and ideas from experts in the team. Almost all the artwork is done and I'm about to close the tickets for banners, buttons, posters and the event tees. I also took the liberty of applying for team membership through FAS - even when it said that an invitation was needed ;) I hope that's ok and someone will sponsor me. VT/FUDcon Blacksburg: Open Source Design Tools Workshop

Hi Ben, I spoke to the design team about the possibility of doing a workshop for VT during FUDcon Blacksburg. The amount of time and topics we can cover are going to vary depending on who is able to obtain funding to attend: - Klaatu (who is definitely coming accdg. to wiki) can teach Kdenlive, GIMP, or Scribus - Emily (who is still seeking funding accdg. to wiki) can teach Inkscape, GIMP - Elad (who is still seeking funding accdg. to wiki) can teach GIMP and some Inkscape I think because we only know for sure that Klaatu and I will be there, we should do something modular so units can be swapped in or out depending on attedance. E.g.: A three hour workshop one day, with one hour each devoted to: - Gimp - Inkscape - Kdenlive (Klaatu) The person leading each tool's instruction will vary depending on who we have showing up (except for Klaatu who we'll need to teach Kdenlive); folks helping out who aren't leading the class can act as lab assistants. If there is a computer lab available, would it be possible to have the software pre-installed? If we are expecting students to bring their own laptops, then we should probably tack on an optional hour to the front of the class to prep students' computers. What do you think? ~m

FUDcon Blacksburg FLOSS design tools outreach workshop

Hi, Ben Williams proposed the idea that members of the design team attending FUDcon Blacksburg could hold a 1-2 day workshop for Virginia Tech (the host of this FUDcon) students, faculty, and staff to introduce them to free & open source design tools & techniques. Here are some ideas of things we could do (please feel free to respond with your own): - An overview of all of the tools that are available with demos of each and a questions & answers period for each (Gimp, Inkscape, Blender, Scribus, MyPaint, Alchemy, SwatchBooker, Xournal, Darktable, Shotwell, LibreOffice, etc. etc. etc.) - A few project-based deep dives into specific tools: - Creating charts & diagrams with Inkscape - Creating comic books with Inkscape - Correcting red eye in photos with the Gimp - Creating a celebrity portraits in Gimp - Creating a flyer in Scribus - Your idea here - A project-based workshop that crosses tools, e.g.: - Creating a newsletter using Gimp for photo manip, Inkscape for the logo, and Scribus for the layout - Creating a 3D character using Blender for modeling and bringing it into Gimp or Inkscape for painting - Your idea here I have taught courses / have content for *some* of the above ideas (charts & diagrams, comic books, celebrity portraits) so those would be quicker to prep for I think. If you are planning / hoping to attend FUDcon and would be interested in helping out with such a course (which is a great outreach opportunity to help more folks make use of our tools) would you mind replying to let me know? I'd like to put together a proposal for Ben by Monday (24 Oct). He needs to know what we can do no later than Nov 1 I think because he has to book a room(s) and get the word out before the end of the semester there. ~m
