Well,
here we go.
4 wallpapers for you to look at and hopefully give me some feedback.
2 unnamed ones are unfinished but show the idea that I would like to pursue.
other 2 are just 1280x1024 updates to ones I've shown before.
Please drop me a line if you find them at least interesting and what you think about the "3"
I still hope that there is somebody from redhat that monitors this group and has access to proper FC3 logos + would not mind sharing them with the group ... i.e me.
www.bart-domain.com/fedora/
links to full images are via the scaled ones.

Looks nice! :D
Really cool - only prob. as far as i can se is that they migth be a bit "fancy" beckause of huge contrasts and bright colours - ie. distracting etc. But my vote is to include them - but not as default!
Good job.

It makes me sick. It uses both a MacOS Trademarked Logo, and names the disk drives as per WinDOwS. But then I don't think ANY desktop artwork is worth a damn, because I have no use for a desktop in the first place.. it's the ONE totally dysfunctional "window" that you can't bring to the top of the stack. I access everything from menues, from auto-hiding function bars that popup over every other window, and basically never see my desktop. But in the rare circumstances I do see my desktop I for sure don't want to see anything that would make me think I'm dealing with either Steve or Bill's creations.

You're referring to the icons on the desktop, not the desktop background which Rubi was looking for comments on.

I looked at what he sent to us.
Please keep rants like this to yourself.
He said: "could you guys give a comment". I did. It's off topic. Artwork is NOT Fedora specific. Keep OFF-TOPIC e-mail out of my Fedora mailing list subscription!

Fedora has its own artwork, Rubi suggested a new desktop background, you ranted about the icons on his desktop.
Good Luck, Mark.

I did not rant... you passed judgement upon my opinion that it was a "rant". He asked for OPINIONS, I gave mine. He got what he asked for.
As for "desktop"s, the best desktop is a simple neutral 50% grey... it's the ONLY background that will not pollute your color perception of anything else showing on the screen. If you're not doing serious color sensitive work, but merely like eye-candy, then you're dealing with very personal preferences, and have forsaken color correct perception. If you're editing / color correcting graphics or video, you need a neutral grey surround, and monitor color temperature calibration and gamma compensation appropriate for the target medium, either print or NTSC video or computer video.
So, artwork on the desktop cannot be taken seriously, as any serious rational approach can only lead where I went in the previous paragraph. Therefore, as someone once said: "I don't know much about art, but I do know what I like". Rubi solicited opinions, and got what he asked for. Art being non rational and of widely varying tastes, it's no wonder that most "desktop" software ships with a wide variety of sample backgrounds, so yeah, go ahead and include it as one of those. Great.
My desktop will remain a rarely seen neutral 50% grey, mostly only seen as a surround for Gimp work when I bother to hide all other open windows in order to obtain collor correct perception of what I'm editing in the Gimp.
If Rubi wants an evaluation of the artwork, it would be better to send it without iconic overlays, allowing us to install and test it on our own desktops... but as he submitted it to us, it WAS a piece of artwork that included a TradeMarked icon that could not be conveniently or easily removed for evaluation of the art on its' own merit.
Icons invoke associations. Include them in artwork upon which opinions are requested, and the opinion will be colored with the association invoked by the icon, just as a non grey surround alters color perception of an image in a window that does not fill the screen.
Are we having fun yet?

Hey, that's a pretty blue curve! However, if you remove the "3" it will be usable on ALL versions of Fedora Core, not just FC3.
Interesting discussion that I get to start the list with.
Your desktop background is GREAT Rubi. You did a wonderful job on it.
