Installation Question/Opinion

Hi, I need some input on installation of Fedora 2. Would you suggest that I not attempt to install Fedora 2 on a laptop running an Sony Vaio, Athlon 1 Ghz machine with 256MB RAM, aprx 2 years old? I am just worried about hardware issues. Thanks! Mitch Featherston

Firefox and Thunderbird for FC2

Fedora Extras has published today firefox and thunderbird packages for FC1 and FC2. These packages have been heavily patched and polished to integrate nicely into the Preferred Applications framework of FC2. This means that you can go into the Preferences -> Preferred Applications chooser, select Firefox & Thunderbird, and the GNOME desktop should fully honor your choice of browser and mail client when clicking hyperlinks in various programs of FC2. http://www.fedora.us/wiki/FedoraHOWTO Please follow the directions on this page if you do not already use Fedora Extras. Report problems of firefox & thunderbird to bugzilla.fedora.us. http://togami.com/~warren/archive/2004/foxbird.sh FC1 users can also use firefox & thunderbird from the Fedora Extras stable repository, but unfortunately the Preferred Applications framework in FC1 is a bit broken. As a workaround you can run this script as your non-root user to set your profile to use these two applications. Warren Togami wtogami(a)redhat.com

I assume the reason for its current design is that Red Hat may not have wanted Fedora to look like RH (or even close), but I could be wrong. The current Fedora logo is just too plain. Bluecurve after Garrett

For those that haven't seen the news yet, Garrett LeSage, the designer of Bluecurve, is leaving RedHat: http://linuxart.com/news.phtml?sid=760 Garrett did great work and he will be missed. I wondered if anyone could shed some light on the future of Bluecurve and the visual aspects of Fedora/RHL in light of Garrett's departure. I understand that RedHat has been hiring or trying to hire some designers? Thanks, Steven Garrity

The Fedora icons can be found here: http://people.redhat.com/glesage/artwork/Fedora/fedoracore2/icons/ While looking around on Garrett's pages I came across this shocking news on http://linuxart.com/ Leaving Red Hat After a lot of careful consideration, I decided to leave Red Hat two weeks ago. Today is my last day with the company. I worked with several very talented, friendly and enthusiastic people at Red Hat. I am glad I was able to make an impact with things like designing and implementing Bluecurve (the themes, icons, and such you see in Red Hat products and also in Fedora), my work to make Fedora happen, the launch of Wide Open Magazine, the redesign of Red Hat Network, and everything else I did while at Red Hat. It was a great 2+ years.

I was wondering, do any of you know of any Fedora artwork that can be made into a cover and CD-label for my Fedora CD-set or maybe even some finished covers or cd-labels? If someone not as artistically retarded as me decided to make something like this, will it be ok (as in legal) to distribute it?
