Firefox update.

This past thursday an updated version of firefox was released that fixed a possible vulnerability with IDN (International Domain Name) display in the location bar. I was wondering when will there be an updated version from Fedora for this? Thanks

KDE blues

Hi ! I am running Free X and KDE in my Red Hat 8.0 box . I have a few queries regarding KDE use . Help is appriciated . 1. How to exit a program which does not have a menu such as FILE/EDIT/VIEW etc . The circle on the top left hand corner of the active program minimizes it and turns it into a small icom . The square on the top right hand side is for changing the size . So How Do I exit the program. 2. If it is possible , How do I change resolution , windows style. 3.If possible , how do I do a print screen on an application such as K-write or any other application equivalent to microsoft paint ? FC3, GNOME question

Hello! I recently installed Fedora Core 3 and set up the system with nary a glitch and logged in using my regular account under GNOME. After installing, I used up2date to update all my packages. I then logged out, choosing "Save Current Settings." When I restarted and tried to log back in using my regular account and GNOME, after entering my password it would show the splash screen briefly, show that it was loading the first couple items on the splash screen, and then I'd get a blank blue screen. (The FC3 BSOD?) I was able to Ctrl-Alt-Del to access the logout/shutdown dialog and log out, and could then log into the system using my regular account under KDE without problems. I can also log in using GNOME or KDE as root. Any ideas what could be going on? Any hardware info you need? Just in case: Running a 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4, 1 GB of DDR400 RAM Western Digital 160 GB SATA hard drive, Linux on a 60 GB partition, XP Pro on the 100 GB partition ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (recognized by Linux initially as a Radeon 9800) Happy to provide any other info... Fedora will not display remote X

I have a Fedora 1 system I've just set up. I cannot seem to get the system to allow display of remote X apps on Fedora host. I have firewall turned off, try setting "xhost +" to allow all connections, but any attempt to run remote application is denied. I can ping fedora host, or ssh into it from remote. If I ssh to the remote host, then applications run fine through the ssh tunnel. I am new to Linux administration, am I missing something simple here?

Capturing screen action to a movie file, how?

I was wondering how easy would it be to do capture screen action to a movie file... What I want to do do is something similar to what Apple has done to show off their OSX where you can see some on-screen actions, like opening X or Y program, then switch tasks, etc, etc. I was wondering if there is a program for Linux (ok, for X) that would allow you to do exactly that, and then be able to transcode that into an .ogm file, for instance. If so what's that program and where do I get it?? I want to do a series of tutorials for my family, but instead of me being present at each computer, they could only open the file, see how a certain task is done and that's about it. You could say I want to do some Linux marketing too :-P

Composite and Metacity.

I've tried to enable dropshadows in two systems running FC3, in both I stumbled into problems with Metacity. In one system with an nVidia GF FX5900, window borders would be transparent, and only "unmanaged" (borderless) windows would cast shadows (menus, dragged icons, etc), while managed windows would not, the window border would be traslucent, and not cast a shadow. The other system, a laptop, will not focus windows when loged into GNOME, I cannot even run xcompmgr to activate dropshadows when I have active the Composite and RENDER extensions. However KDE works in both systems just fine with dropshadows, why isn't Metacity working as it should? Is there somethening that can be done, do I need a newer metacity or a patched one? Thanks.

Making global X changes.

What file must I edit so whenever X starts, it does something I want differently. I've altready tried /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc, but that file doesnot seem to have the effect I'm looking for. What I want is to add the following command as a global X startup option: "xcompgr -c -C -f -D 20", problem is that I don't know where to put it... Any ideas?

Including gCursor.

Hi, What about including gcursor in fedora? Currently it has the feaures mising in the current theme selector, that is changing also the cursor theme. It woud be nice to have it's functions integrated in the current theme selector, and have one tool to control everything. But, if that's not possible having gursor in the preferences too, would not be bad. I've been trying it, and it works ok. The only feature, that it won't do is to change instantly the cursor theme we need to restart the X so it apply the changes. But maybe this can be fixed too. Best regards, Fernando Morais

External Volume Buttons in GNOME

Hello, I have tried to get my volume buttons working on my Presario R3320CA under FC3 x86_64, but got no success. What I did was open up the Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts menu and bound the Volume mute/up/down to the volume buttons on the side. This is what it got set to: 0Xa0/0xae/0xb0. When I tried it then, it didn't work. Then just to see if it's a problem with the buttons, I bind volume down to a keyboard key (Control+.). That had no effect eighter.
