Workstation WG meeting date changes

Hi, To make our August meetings more convenient for working group members to attend, we have approved a change to move all future meetings up by one week. The new meeting schedule is: Aug 05 - Christian Schaller (next week) Aug 19 - Owen Taylor Sep 2 - Langdon White Sep 16 - chair TBD Sep 30 - chair TBD etc. Meet time remains unchanged, 9:00 EDT on every second Monday. We're just swapping the set of Mondays that we'll meet on. Michael

wine/dxvk: Help with testing

Hi, I've proposed some packaging changes [0] to Fedora wine package. TLDR: It splits d3d libraries into subpackages and lays groundwork for future dxvk packaging [1]. Details are in the PR. *What is DXVK?* Vulkan-based D3D11 and D3D10 implementation for Linux / Wine. In short, you can replace wine's d3d10/11 implementation with DXVK, which typically results in huge performance gains and far superior compatibility compared to wine d3d libraries. You can find more here: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk *How to test?* *# Have either Fedora 30 or Fedora 31* dnf copr enable frantisekz/wine-dxvk dnf update wine dnf install wine-dxvk --allowerasing Then fire up as many DirectX 9,10,11 apps as you can :) and post results into this thread, especially if something got broken compared to normal dxvk installation or if some d3d9 apps regressed. DXVK works for d3d10 and d3d11, but note that I am also interested in apps using d3d9, because dxvk package replaces wine's dxgi library that's then used even for stuff that doesn't run through dxvk. Just make sure you don't have DXVK manually installed already in your wine prefix. Gnome initial setup won't finish

Hi there, I have build an ISO based on Fedora 30 workstation. Installation was fine but after completion of gnome-initial-setup, I can't see "Activities" in the top-left corner. When I try to relogin or restart system prompt gnome-initial-setup again. Was there any perticular change after fedora 30 release? Regards, -- Danishka Navin

flatpak installations fail in Fedora 30

I haven't been able to install flatpaks on a clean installation of Fedora 30 for a month now. This bug has the most complete and recent information: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1697566 The biggest issue is no one really knows exactly what the problem is so there's a lot of finger pointing, most of it centered on libcurl version. Supposedly the fix was backported to 7.64.0-8.fc30 but that hasn't actually fixed the problem; today a user reports that upstream master/7.65.2 did fix the problem. But what's the policy for rebasing to that? Is the Fedora libcurl maintainer expected to figure out what fixes it and backport it? The verbose output is not that helpful, and libcurl folks are like, this is too complicated with too many layers, try to reproduce it with libcurl directly - and I'm like, that's pretty unlikely. Perhaps more likely is maybe asking this user to bisect and find out the good commit that fixes the problem, and ask the Fedora libcurl maintainer to backport that? Anyway, if it's better for me to file a WG issue and we can discuss it at Monday's meeting, I'll do that. -- Chris Murphy
