OK, it sounds like Macs indeed have bigger issues. I will propose "BIOS or UEFI, preexisting Linux using LVM" and "UEFI, preexisting Linux no-LVM" as blockers, then, but not "UEFI, preexisting OS X." Thanks Chris.
