One of the major new features we've planned is graphical upgrades from F23->F24.
This hasn't landed in F23 yet, so it's not yet testable. Could we have a progress update on this? Does it work reliably? The plan was to prepare Software 3.20 as an update for F23; is that going to happen? Will there be some way to opt-in to a test upgrade before F24 has been released, so beta testers can test it? It would be a shame if beta testers all upgrade with dnf instead, so we miss out on testing for this.

There's copr available from, i think, rhughes that upgrades just Gnome-Software + dependencies. Testers can use that until the mainline update lands On Apr 12, 2016 13:22, "Michael Catanzaro" mcatanzaro@gnome.org wrote:

How is this going to get rolled out? Will it move from f23 updates-testing to updates for all Fedora 23 users shortly after Fedora 24 final go happens?
Is there any concern about Software 3.20 being on Fedora 23 for users not immediately upgrading? i.e. should there be some testing of Fedora 23 updates (not a F24 upgrade) with the new version tool to make sure there isn't breakage for Fedora 23 users who might stick with F23 for another 6 months?

Having some extra time in updates-testing (with autokarma disabled) and finding some people to test this directly seems like a good idea.

Thanks for flagging this up. I'd definitely be worried if this isn't at least easily available for testing at Beta.

It's also really hard to test this before GA. I'd be really hesitant pushing out the f23 backport for the f24 update until about a week after GA, as packages have to sync and mirrors have to flip bits and more importantly we have to wait for pkgdb to change. Saying the world can GUI upgrade for beta or GA would be asking for trouble.

But clearly we can upgrade with dnf. Is there some technical limitation here with PackageKit, or...?

I assume this is because there is no newer version thats announced on servers yet to upgrade to ?
Can we add some debug env var/option to tell g-s to consider an alternative location, where we can put up the equivalent data for the f24 beta ?

We freeze and push to mirrors before the weekend before GA, so that the majority of mirrors are all synced by the actual day, with no need to wait a week. (We also stopped actually using restricted permissions a few years ago, since that was a charade anyway when the bits are directly available anyway.)
But if waiting until after the GA is going to make this go more smoothly, I'll start thinking about how to message that.

So, I'm working on the press release for the beta. What's the current plan here?
