I've been looking at the desktop image size again this afternoon. We're still some 7M over. I've found a few things in /usr/share/doc that should not be there, but that is not quite enough. Since gnome-software will debut in F20 and allow us to have a reasonable search for applications, I'm going to suggest that we remove
gnome-boxes gnome-dictionary prelink
which will probably get us here. gnome-boxes has been called out as problematic on the live image before since it being present has side-effects for network configuration ( https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/desktop/2013-August/008140.html ).
I'll make these changes soon, unless there is strong opposition. In that case, please be prepared to suggest alternative cuts.

I've wanted to remove this for ages, but am usually told that it makes a meaningful difference to startup time particularly for desktop applications.
Does it matter on *today's* hardware? (Has it _ever_ mattered on the livecd?)

is removing prelink going to break deltarpm ? does it matter for desktop image?

I don't see how it would. If anything deltarpm has to do extra work to work around the changes that prelink makes to installed content.
Hi Matthew,
I am particularly interested to know what the consensus is around prelink in Fedora over the longer term. We are seeking resources internally/within Linaro to get the port-in-progress to AArch64 (relocations and the like already done by msalter) finished but if prelink doesn't matter to anyone, that would be good to know :)

I would be all for getting rid of prelink, since it just caused big problems with some FIPS compliance stuff. I also question how much of a speed up it provides, especially with modern hardware and SSD cards.

What about on really slow ARM hardware? :)

Arm isn't much different in this regard in a lot of situations.

I've made these changes in spin-kickstarts now (for both f20 and rawhide). Let me know if you see any problems (in particular wrt to prelink).
