Anyone working on packaging for fedora?
I guess one issue is that it requires a JDK. AFAIK, there isn't one standard JDK for Fedora.

Can it be built and run with gcj so that only open source is needed for it. If not it doesn't seem to be eligible for Fedora anyway.

checking for javac... no configure: error: no acceptable java compiler found - please install at least the Java(TM) 2 SDK.

Though it's not exactly the same thing that Open-Xchange tries to be, there's www.opengroupware.org.
You might try to get it into JPackage (http://www.jpackage.org/). This way it stands a good chance to get into Fedora and/or Mandrake sooner or later, and in the meantime you'll get all the java infrastructure that has not yet been freed enough to allow direct Fedora inclusion.
As you may have noticed looking at the Fedora and JPackage package lists, Redhat has decided to tap into JPackage project recently, so FC3 compat should be pretty good. (I can't promise all the nice @redhat people that has been active in jpackage lately will look at open-xchange though)

This is not really "proving" something, although it also gives not much hope. Some configure scripts look at JAVA and JAVAC environment variables or parameters and you might want to try something like
./configure JAVA=/usr/bin/gcj JAVAC="/usr/bin/gcj -C"

Can you install the java-1.4.2-gcj-compat (FC3) package and try this again? It installs wrapper scripts for ecj and gij that make them quite similar in behaviour to Sun's tools. Open-Xchange doesn't seem to require Swing so there is a chance it will run with libgcj.
Thanks, Tom
