The added bonus for this option is that the maintenance of the packages themselves is left to the community rather than to an already overworked Redhat staff which is maintaining 2 distros (FC and RHEL). Here is why from the 1.2.2cvs docs for Scribus: "Two plus years of working with Scribus has led me to the current conclusion that the following three viewers are the most reliable at displaying PS/EPS/PDF created by Scribus: Acrobat Reader 5.0.8+ for Linux - GSview 4.6+ - with the latest version of Ghostscript available. Latest selinux policy update disables NIS

The latest selinux policy update threw me for a loop this week. It seems to have caused NIS to stop functioning altogether. This seems bad, but I don't know if it was intentional. To work around this, I went into the GUI security level tool and disabled selinux for NIS. Should this be a bug? Sean

Okay, I'll dig into the alternatives man page, although I really didn't want to know about that. Don't plan on using it. But I did not install any java at all when I installed Fedora. There was no javac in the same place. Moreover, on this FC2 install, these are not symbolic links. If they're multiply linked, the links are hard. They do not show up in /etc/alternatives, nor in anything in /var/lib/alternatives. Why are jar and rmic in there at all? Are they being used by the system, and if I remove them will something break? How do I find out what else to remove?
