twinkle: Intent to retire

Greetings. I'm the current Fedora maintainer of the twinkle package. Sadly, it's in poor shape: - Segfaults on start in recent fedora versions (depending on config). - Has not had an upstream release in 4+ years. - Has not had any response from upstream maintainer in at least that long. - Uses Qt3 and a complex stack of c++ libraries. - 8 open bugs: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/twinkle/bugs/all Debian removed it last year, Arch moved it to a user repo instead of the main repo last year. So, I am going to retire this package in rawhide soon unless there's folks with a very strong C++ background wishing to fix issues and basically become the new upstream. kevin

Doc dir related changes coming up

Hello, Related to the unversioned docdirs F-20 feature [1], some changes with doc packages will be needed in a bunch of packages. More info will follow later, but I've started looking into the list of affected ones. Some related things are still being discussed on the packaging@ mailing list. While assembling the list, I'll check which packages can be easily and cleanly made independent of whether their docs install into versioned or unversioned doc dirs, and will push and build those trivial changes to rawhide already now. See [1] for more details. == Detailed description == New perl is released every year and updates containing mainly bug fixes follow during the year. The 5.18.0 version is stable release this year and 5.18.1 and subsequent revisions will follow during the year to fix issues introduced in 5.18.0. Because of change in dlopen(3) from RTLD_GLOBAL to RTLD_LOCAL (bug #960048) [2], we will try to link all native perl module DSOs to libperl.so explicitly. This item needs discussion. Current status does not allow to use perl interpreter via dlopen() from other programs (like slapd, snmpd), but proposed change can bring other unforeseen difficulties (like double-linking). Fedora minimal install no tar tool?

I have installed Fedora 17/18/19 (selected Minimal installation) from DVD and it completed successfully, however there is no tar tool. Was this change intentional? Thoughts? Thanks! -- Cheers Douglas

Hello All. Recent Erlang bugfix release fixed a few issues but added another nasty one - actually almost all Erlang application will fail to start. I'm working on it. Meanwhile please stay with R16B or downgrade to it. Hello, I've pushed new DNF version to F19 [1] and Rawhide today. There's only little changes but the default value for repos' skip_if_unavailable has changed and is enabled now. This is because recently an ailing Dropbox repo has made many fine DNF processes end too soon for no good reason [3]. See [2] for the release notes. Default libkrb5 ccache location

Recently a number of bugs [1-5] have come up regarding the new default Kerberos Ccache location that we changed according to [6]. We originally thought that reusing the same directory used by XDG_USER_DIR was a good idea as systemd/logind would pre-create it for us and we'd all be happy. Unfortunately it turns out there a re a number of cases where the directory is not pre-created for us (sshd, sudo, su) and a number of cases where even if we created it out of systemd/logind supervision we'd risk it being yanked from under the process that is using it as by default systemd/logind uses a refcount system to know when to remove it. I have an idea that can solve the problem relatively easily. Create a small dbus program (reuse oddjob ?) that will be called by libkrb5 to request creation of the credential cache. This would be a small Fedora19 patch to libkrb5, I do not think upstream would like it in this form (more on it later)[*]. The dbus program would simply get the unix cred structure of the calling application via dbus services and unconditionally create /var/kerberos/user/%uidnumber/krbcc[**] directory based exclusively on the uid number of the peer and a system configured template, it would also create a symlink in /run/user/%uidnumber/krbcc for backwards compatibility in Fedora 19 only, and we transition completely to the new dir in F20. Why a new dir ? Because we do not want systemd/logind to yank the directory under us. There are a number of cases where it would be beneficial to keep it around (example a cron job that starts every 10 minutes and uses cached credentials valid for hours to do some task). Simo. Rebuild of Boost dependees

Hi there, as some of you may have noticed, the biannual Boost rebuild has been underway since Saturday! So far about 100 packages have been rebuilt. I'll appreciate any help that I can get with resolving the current failures. Just ping me on IRC (_petr) so that we don't duplicate effort.
