Hi All,
During the last few days, we've been preparing a rebase to Ruby 2.1 in
f21-ruby sidetag and it was just merged back to Rawhide. This rebase
involves libruby soname bump. Updated Ruby carries RubyGems 2.2.
We've tried to rebuilt all binary packages, but some remaining - which
were either more complex or already FTBFS - will need your attention.
For changes in packaging, see this [1] draft (which is more or less
approved [2], but not yet merged with official Ruby guidelines).
We also used this side-tag to build Ruby on Rails 4.1 and because of
this, we were forced to update rubygem-minitest package [3].
If you need more help with your package, try to search answer to your
issue via ruby-sig ML or you can contact directly me.

= Proposed Self Contained Change: MariaDB 10.0 =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/MariaDB10
Change owner(s): Jakub Dorňák <jdornak(a)redhat.com>
Update MariaDB to version 10.0
== Detailed Description ==
MariaDB 10.0 is the current stable (GA) release of MariaDB. It is built on the
MariaDB 5.5 series with backported features from MySQL 5.6 and entirely new
features not found anywhere else.
The libraries provided by MariaDB 10.0 packages remain compatible. There is no
need to rebuild other packages.
== Scope ==
* Proposal owners: rebase MariaDB to version 10.0.10
* Other developers: N/A (not a System Wide Change)
* Release engineering: N/A (not a System Wide Change)
* Policies and guidelines: N/A (not a System Wide Change)
There is no need to rebuild other packages.

= Proposed Self Contained Change: LVM Cache Logical Volumes =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Cache_Logical_Volumes
Change owner(s): Alasdair G. Kergon <agk(a)redhat.com>, David Cantrell
<dcantrel(a)redhat.com>, Dave Lehman <dlehman(a)fedoraproject.org>
LVM can now use fast block devices (e.g. SSDs and PCIe Flash) to improve the
performance of larger but slower block devices. These hierarchical or layered
logical volumes are called Cache Logical Volumes in LVM.
== Detailed Description ==
LVM is now capable of using fast block devices (e.g. SSDs) as write-back or
write-though caches for larger slower block devices. Users can create cache
logical volumes to improve the performance of their existing logical volumes
or create new cache logical volumes composed of a small and fast device
coupled with a large and slow device. These cache logical volumes can be used
with most LVM segment types, including RAID 1/4/5/6/10, linear, stripe and
thin pools.
== Scope ==
* Proposal owners:
The LVM team must deliver the lvm2 package implementing cache LV (already
included in release 2.02.106)
* Other developers: N/A (not a System Wide Change)
The Anaconda team must develop a UI for configuring cache LVs during
installation. If Anaconda support is not provided, users will have to
configure cache LVs after installation or by dropping into a command line.
Also, Anaconda could fail if installing a new OS onto an existing cache LV if
support is not provided.
Anaconda team signed as co-owners of this Change.
The dracut team must provide boot support. If dracut does not provide
support, cache LVs will not be usable as root devices.
* Release engineering: N/A (not a System Wide Change)
* Policies and guidelines: N/A (not a System Wide Change)

In its latest bug fix release (1.5.1), python-nose-progressive was
relicensed from GPL to MIT. This version is now in rawhide:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=514208
I will push updates for F19 and F20 soon. Since this is a leaf package
and it has a changed to a more permissive license, I don't see any
problems.

http://fedoramagazine.org/five-things-in-fedora-this-week-2014-04-29/
Fedora is a big project, and it’s hard to follow it all. This series
highlights interesting happenings in five different areas every week.
It isn’t comprehensive news coverage — just quick summaries with links
to each. Here are the five things for April 29th, 2014:
Last Chance to Vote for Flock Sessions
--------------------------------------
I know I’ve been posting these reminders for a while now, but this is
the last one, since it’s also the last few days in which voting is open
for the different sessions proposed for Flock (Fedora’s annual planning
and development conference, in Prague this August). Fedora contributors
can vote on the Fedora Elections page. Of course, it’s best if you can
actually attend, but even if you won’t be able to, it’s helpful to
vote on topics which you really think we need to be talking about.
Also, we know that the voting system is a little awkward with this many
options — it was designed for elections with only a handful of choices.
Hopefully that will be fixed for next year. In the meantime, pick high
numbers for sessions you find interesting. And voting closes Thursday,
May 1st, one second before midnight, UTC.

Fedora @ FLISOL
---------------
FLISOL is multi-country free software “install fest” which takes place
annually across Latin America. This year, Fedora had representation in
many different places, including Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. Fedora
Ambassador Matias Kreder posted a short positive report from Buenos
Aires, with plenty of pictures and a link to a video by the national
news agency. As you can see, Fedora was very much in evidence!

Fedora Workstation on *Bad Voltage* Podcast
-------------------------------------------
Last week, I mentioned Christian Schaller’s blog post about Fedora
Workstation. This attracted the attention of the people behind the “Bad
Voltage” podcast — an audio program covering “technology, Open Source,
politics, music, and anything else”. They invited Christian to come on
the show, and you can hear him answering questions aboutFedora
Workstation on Episode 1×14, at about minute 17. (Be warned that the
podcast declares itself Not Safe For Work, and contains strong
language.)

Fedora Contributor Vacation Calendar
------------------------------------
This isn’t new this week, but… it’s new to me, so that counts, right?
Fedora’s calendar system includes a contributor vacation calendar,
where you can record times when you’ll be away. This is particularly
helpful if you maintain packages, so others know you’re unreachable if
there is a security or other problem.
* https://apps.fedoraproject.org/calendar/vacation/
Ask Fedora
----------
This one is also cheating: it’s not new at all. But if you haven’t seen
it, take a look at Ask Fedora, our community question-and-answer
site. You can ask questions, of course, but also, look for unanswered
questions where you can help.
Users build reputation by having their questions or answers voted on,
and increased reputation increases what you can do on the site. If
you’re a new user, or just ran into a frustrating problem, this is a
great way to find solutions, and if you are more experienced, or know
the answer to a frustrating problem, it’s a great way to give back (and
can be fun, too).

Matthew Miller -- Fedora Project -- <mattdm(a)fedoraproject.org>
"Tepid change for the somewhat better!"
In https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1090516
Jiri asked for removing Copr (and Playground) DNF plugin out of dnf-plugins-core.
Since this is not technical but merely political question I would like to ask wider audience:
Put your voice here please:
http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5358d77de4b06a67c5b08e05
If there will be significant votes for one option, I would do what most of you wish.
Otherwise I will forward it to Fesco for decision.
