Where did you find that recommendation?
The closest thing I've found to an XFS block size recommendation is this, which generally suggests 4K blocks for filesystems greater than 100MB in size: http://www.cray.com/craydoc/manuals/S-2377-22/html-S-2377-22/z1029460436.htm...
Also, the default block size is 4K.
