The latest version of mock is 0.8.19. Have you tried upgrading?

Not at the EPEL 5 Repo, there is the last one 0.8.9, but I can try to install 0.8.19 from F-7/8.
So tested, but the install fails, because of missing python deps. mock 0.8.19 will use python 2.5 but EPEL 5 comes with 2.4:(
