I don't think this is just you. When trying to install F8 on an HP laptop (in text mode)

This exact same problem happens when installing from known good media on both USB DVD drives and the local dvd drive. I am using the Fedora-8-i386-DVD.iso. Memtest has been run on this system and there are no memory errors.
This doesn't seem to be isolated. < http://www.nabble.com/F8-Installation-Issue---Second-Try-tf4806216.html#a137...
This error happens when starting the installation process after the media check screen (skip). The installer cannot validate the media (validated on two other computers) either locally or using USB DVD drives.
I'm having the exact same problem here on a Compag nc8000. Has somebody found the problem and a solution yet?

Eric, your email did not seem to refer to the previous thread correctly, so 'exact same problem' is not clear. Can you explain that, or check whether you replied to the wrong list? I cannot find a thread titled 'Fedora 8 installation crash' on any fedora lists at the moment, although there is 'Fedora 8 installation issue' on fedora-list, without replies.
Fedora Unity respins do solve some installation problems, see: http://spins.fedoraunity.org/

IIRC recent compaq laptops have a bios bug that require very recent kernels to work around (not even sure if 2.6.24 is ok). If the nc8000 is part of this batch, I doubt any pre-F9 release is going to work.
