Help Guide Feedback - Was: Etiquette Guide

Hey guys and ladies :) I have finally gotten some time to start my help guide for the fedora project. It is nowhere near done yet as i only have one and a half chapters completed with a planned total of eight chapters covering both ends of a request for help and so on. What i am posting about it a request for feedback on what i have done so far, i would hate to complete it and realize that i did it wrong. Pointers would also be gratefully accepted. Fedora SELinux FAQ

These last two weeks I've been working on the SELinux pieces of the Fedora Core 2 test2 release notes. The current incarnation is available at: http://people.redhat.com/kwade/selinux/selinux-faq/selinux-faq-en/ http://people.redhat.com/kwade/selinux/selinux-faq/selinux-faq-en.xml As described below, this content will start to be released Real Soon Now(TM), and I am interested in your input. Consider content quality (clarity, ease of use, clear to non-native English readers), ability to translate well, and of course the XML. In addition, I want to add this to CVS soonest, therefore I'll need Tammy's input. Also, I just noticed that the XSL does not create a question ToC, as it does in the DSSSL Tammy wrote for the Red Hat docs. Is a bugzilla report against the fedora.xsl a good way to make a feature request such as this? I'm not feeling clued enough to tackle it myself, yet. If you want the whole story for the SELinux FAQ, here's a picture of the plans and challenges: The Plan :: The SELinux release notes are in a FAQ. Ed Bailey will take the <sect1> from me, confirm it will work within the release notes limitations, and insert that into the release notes XML. Following release, we will fork the SELinux FAQ into a standalone FAQ. This will be kept for the short term in a very easy to read and write format, such as a plain text file. Fedora SELinux developers will be writing to this FAQ often, to help handle bug reports and questions following the test2 release. After the FAQ has settled into a new shape, I will take it from the developers, massage it back into DocBook XML, and move it to the fedora-docs module in CVS permanently. I'd like to create the module in CVS right now mainly to put my work under source control, and to make it easy for me to add in the updates after I get the FAQ back. All the details haven't been worked out yet in terms of where the interim FAQ will live, and where the permanent FAQ will be accessible via URL. The Challenges :: I'm doing the FAQ using a <qandaset>. The downside is the need for keeping the XML simple for the release notes. The release notes need to be viewable in Anaconda using /usr/lib/anaconda/htmlbuffer.py, which currently is limited in its ability to handle nested lists and tables. The FAQ portion is built using a table, but it breaks reasonably gracefully. For a snapshot to be used in the release notes, I may do some magic to make them ready for the release notes. Ed suggested a <variablelist> setup, which is a fairly good method. I'm keeping the main source in the more useful <qandaset> because the canonical source will be the Fedora Core SELinux FAQ (fedora-docs/selinux-faq), so will take full advantage of DocBook. Sorry for the delay, this was finals week but now I'm done. This is a pretty basic guide, but it's enough to get started and has some pointers to more information. Fasttrak tx2000 RAID 1 fedora kernel install

I have a Fasttrak tx2000 running RH9 which works fine. But I’d like to upgrade to fedora cleanly. I have my RAID 1 array partitioned so the OS is on different partition then my data. Problem is Fedora doesn’t load the fasttrak RAID driver like it should. I know I could recompile the kernel and setup that way but isn’t there a boot linux dd or boot command that would tell it to load the fasttrak modules so that the tx2000 controls the raid not the linux software raid 1 kernel. old and new? Twiki to docbook

http://www.dpawson.co.uk/fedora/oldandnew.html Is the general writeup on using SGML tools to get from twiki to docbook. I've described it in a general way, rather than tayloring it to Fedora usage. Same directory, twikiFedora.xsl, if used instead of twikiStyle.xsl, will produce docbook with all the fedora stuff included. The only problem I haven't figured out, is resolving twiki files which don't have ---+ as their first element. Those starting with second level headings simply don't work. If needed, insert a level one heading prior to first content, then it all works. I'll update as and when I've figured it. Comments appreciated. regards DaveP

recent website changes for docs

1. This has been updated to include a chapter on Emacs and nXML Mode thanks to Gavin Henry, a few other patches/suggestion, and an Index. I also added some brief information on how the index is auto-generated. There are probably other minor fixes as well I can't remember. I have started tagging the files in CVS as I create new versions, so next time I can send out exact diffs for those interested and so you don't have to read it all again to figure out the subtle changes. http://fedora.redhat.com/participate/documentation-guide/ 2. twiki format to docbook

The article on xml.com, http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2004/03/03/sgmlwiki.html provoked me into trying it out. I didn't work with SGML for long, and this piece is just a little on the esoteric side. The basics are that the wiki text is regular, hence parsable. SGML has a wierd set of characteristics such that "ldldldl" can be interpreted as the tag named quote, the content ldldldl and the end tag for quote. As I said, wierd. Similarly, newline---+ can be interpreted as a level one heading, etc. Anyway, so far I've got a working version for the twiki syntax but I'm wondering if its a worthwhile addition to the fedora docs toolkit? The only tool is a couple of text files, and an application from James Clark. Its part of the sp toolkit http://www.jclark.com/sp/ http://www.jclark.com/sp/sx.htm documents it. The process is fairly simple. 1. Add two lines to the wiki content, 2. Parse it as an SGML file... using sx, which then produces an XML file. Its then two minutes to wrap it up in a proper article header using XSLT and submit it. It may lead to the need to keep wiki contents fairly straightforward, e.g. inter page wiki links or WikiWord links as twiki calls them, won't tranfer quite so easily. If one of the people using the wiki could point out a fairly complex page I'll try it out and report the results. regards DaveP <tag>Old enough to have used SGML :-)</tag>
