Deependra Singh Shekhawat #City, Country, TimeZone Jodhpur, India, IST #Profession Student: Doing Master of computer application from Engineering College #School School of Engineering Jai Narain Vyas University Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India #Goals in Fedora Project I want to write more about the existing guides covering the topics about "Cobbler", "Virtualization" , "Python" etc. In etc. I would like to include the different server packages like sendmail, qmail, bind, apache, nfs and samba. The above servers I have included because I have done RHCE (Redhat certified Engineer) and in the past worked as a Redhat Trainer in a local training partner here. So I would like to contribute my knowledge into the Docs covering them. I have included "Cobbler" and "virtualization" because I have been experimenting with them for the past few months. Mainly configuring them and testing them. "Python" because I am currently learning it. If I can help in this it will be my pleasure. #Historical qualifications BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) RHCE (Redhat Certified Engineer) in January 2006. Redhat Trainer at local training center for 4 months. Since we didn't have a steering committee meeting today, I thought I would update some status on a few things I'm doing or overseeing: * Some increased activity around the idea of working through all guides one at a time. The first task, of getting software management content into the user and admin guides, is complete. ** Now we all need to write, read, edit, fix, and pay attention to: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Drafts/DesktopUserGuide (John - what is the idea with Docs/Drafts/UserGuide redirecting to DesktopUserGuide? ** Anyone care that "FUG" (Fedora User Guide) and "FAG" (Fedora Administrator Guide) might have other meanings to people? * New content publication system. We are waiting for a Plone version to become available before deploying. In the meantime, we have been working up the enhancement requests (RFEs) for the system, via this mailing list. Expect some update from Jon Steffan, who is doing the custom coding and roll-out as a GSoC project. * New translation system quietly went live this week. As content providers, we should be happy at the integration and overall quality of what is going on. Personally, I'm very excited by the surge of energy in the Translation Project. http://translate.fedoraproject.org * One project quietly making progress is the man/info page wiki editor: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SummerOfCode/2007/VillePekkaVainio Ville-Pekka's blog was just added to planet.fedoraproject.org; sorry I didn't think of that previously. Ok as on the tasks page, i will move the rpm guide to a new page stub with the docs template in mind. i will take over as maintainer for it. But i saw a mail corresponding to an order in which tasks are to be completed: do i go according to that or should i move the rpm guide to a new page... i require guidence here. Again, DocBook Visions

If you're a Fedora Documentation Project contributor, or you want to be, this message is for you. We keep a lot of our work -- the really good stuff -- in DocBook XML in a CVS source code repository. Learning to use it is pretty easy, but if you're not a hardcore geek, it can be scary getting stared. (I know, I was scared of it when I started too.) This morning I updated http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/DocBook to point to our example tutorial, a sort of "show and tell" device for learning DocBook XML. It has long segments of explanatory text that tell you how to get started using DocBook. http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewcvs/example-tutorial/en_US/example-tutoria… If you've never used DocBook, or only used it a little, and want to be a powerful contributor to the project, this tutorial may help! It would be great if all new contributors would check out the tutorial through the link above. Read it, and feel free to ask questions here or on IRC (irc.freenode.net) at #fedora-docs. I'd also appreciate feedback if you feel something's missing or confusing. one at a time

In recent meetings, FDSCo decided it would be a good idea for all of us to focus on completing one guide at a time. Right now we are running in parallel and making slower progress. What do you think of this idea? How does this order sound? 1. SMG (split) => UG, AG 2. UG 3. SpinG 4. AG 5. DevelG 6. RPM Guide I think the first task is going to be fairly easily accomplished, and it supports the second. We've all agreed that the spin work is important, but it is targeted at a much smaller audience than the User Guide.
