IBus GJS for GNOME-Shell 3.2.0

Now ibus 1.4.0-2.fc16 is available on bodhi. I was a bit busy for gnome-shell and on vacation. Fedora 16 will use gnome-shell 3.2.x and gjs 1.30.x. Unfortunately We could not integrate ibus gjs into gnome-shell so we still need to install ibus-gnome3 by manual for gnome-shell. There are two points to enable ibus-gnome3 with gnome-shell. *#1 Checking the versions* After you install ibus-gnome3 (yum install ibus-gnome3), you will notice /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ibus-indicator(a)example.com/metadata.json is installed. That file provides the supported versions of gnome-shell and gjs. # yum install gnome-shell gjs # rpm -q gnome-shell gjs gnome-shell-3.1.92-1.fc16.x86_64 gjs-1.29.18-1.fc16.x86_64 # yum install --enablerepo=updates-testing ibus ibus-gnome3 # rpm -q ibus-gnome3 ibus-gnome3-1.4.0-2.fc16.x86_64 # cat /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ibus-indicator(a)example.com/metadata.json {"shell-version": ["3.1.92"], "js-version": ["1.29.18"], "uuid": "ibus-indicator(a)example.com", "name": "Input-Method Status Indicator", "description": "Add a system status menu for input-methods using IBus", "url": "https://github.com/fujiwarat/ibus-gjs" } The example shows metadata.json file has the two keys ‘shell-version’ and ‘js-version’ and ‘shell-version’ is ’3.1.92′ and ‘js-version’ is ’1.29.18′. The versions are matched with the versions of gnome-shell and gjs. If the versions are different, ibus-gnome3 won’t be enabled with gnome-shell. [1] *#2 Enable dconf key* Unfortunately all shell extensions are disabled by default in GNOME 3.2 so you need to enable the dconf key by manual. % gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions [] % gsettings set org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions "['ibus-indicator(a)example.com']" % gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions ['ibus-indicator(a)example.com'] Now you can enable ibus-gnome3 with gnome-shell in Fedora 16. [2] % gnome-shell --replace If you cannot enable ibus-gnome3 but no errors on terminal, probably the follwing debug option might be useful for you % env GJS_DEBUG_OUTPUT=stderr gnome-shell --replace Note: gnome-shell 3.2.0 and gjs 1.30.0 will be available soon and I also will update ibus-gnome3 with metadata.json file. [1] Actually gnome-shell compares the versions with /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/misc/config.js and the checking script is versionCheck() in /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/extensionSystem.js [2] If you’d like to run gnome-shell by manual, compiz-gnome can shows the ‘Classic GNOME with Compiz’ on GDM login screen.

Released lohit fonts 2.5.0 with OFL 1.1 License

Hi All, As most of you aware from our earlier discussion regarding relicensing of lohit fonts. <https://www.redhat.com/archives/lohit-devel-list/2011-September/msg00008.ht…> I am releasing all lohit script fonts 2.5.0 with SIL OFL 1.1 License. I have updated License text and other file accordingly. See changelog of each script for more details regarding changes. I will rebuild lohit in fedora next week. It will be good if all distros build lohit packages with this latest release of lohit fonts with OFL license. Best Regards, Pravin Satpute

Hi Sachin, Yes, definitely typing booster is very useful for users and i think it is future of indian input method. In future i will add typewriter layout as well in it. Just checked we do not have typewriter layout for marathi in m17n-db, but we do have typewriter and remignoton layout for hindi language. Years of practice and habit of using typewriter keyboard layout makes this even more difficult. C-DAC, the Indian premier institute in the field of computer solutions has created a beta application called 'LISM' which has the typewriter keyboard layout (Free to use). But somehow I haven't been able to successfully install and use it on my Fedora core 15 64 bit laptop. In this connection can I request you to kindly guide me regarding my search in any way? comps headsup: plan to drop langpacks from language-support groups in comps-f17.xml.in

Hi, yum-langpacks has been working pretty well now for a while in Fedora, but all langpacks are still listed conditionally in comps' language support groups in addition to the <langpacks> meta-section. So for F17 I'd like to remove them all from comps, this will simplify comps a lot and if we can also remove the resulting empty language support groups it will also reduce the comps translation burden in addition to comps maintenance. A few things I noted while attempting to prune comps-f17: - most of the remaining packages in language support group are fonts and input-methods - perhaps the mandatory/default ones could Provide: fonts(lang) and input-method(lang). - normal anaconda installs support installation of multiple language support groups - I think it would be better to move the list of languages out of comps into anaconda itself (they are already translated in iso-codes, etc) - anaconda could then set langpack_locales to install langpacks for multiple languages - we maybe need to add a new "yum install-lang" command say to replace "yum install @<lang>-support" which could use a more aggressive version of yum-langpacks to pull the required packages. - @base and @office still list aspell-en, hunspell-en, and libreoffice-langpack-en conditionally which I think could be dropped. Anyway the fact that we can remove 1500 basically redundant lines now from comps thanks to Bill's great work on yum-langpacks is good news and would be a big win IMHO. This might well make a good F17 Feature. Jens
