How do I enable typing high ASCII character by Alt - numpad in Linux?
I want to keep the US keyboard and en_CA language. This works fine in every version of Windows, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get Linux to do the same, I believe the Latin-1 charset would do it, but how/where do I enable it?

Hi Kari,
Yup it is more like a Windows feature ;). Does application like gucharmap or character palette applet suit your need?

Can Ctrl-Alt-Shift be considered an alternative inside gtk+ apps? For example, [Ctrl][Alt][Shift]-A3 gives an english pound sign.

Not really. Even in OS/2 I can type Alt-130 to get é, Alt-142 to get Ä etc. ..
99% of my correspondence is in US English, but there are occasional overseas contacts, when those characters are a necessity. Changing the system language is not an option.
