I'd like to request approval (on behalf of Susmit) to do the following (As outlined in the FreeMedia Infrastructure SOP): cd /puppet/modules/freemedia/files cp FreeMedia-form.html.orig FreeMedia-form.html git commit -a -m 'opening freemedia form for month `date +%B`' git push And a few days later, cd /puppet/modules/freemedia/files cp FreeMedia-close.html Freemedia-form.html git commit -a -m 'closing freemedia form for month `date +%B`' git push This is a routine activity normally done on the beginning of the month for a few days to allow individuals to submit requests to the freemedia project. Hello list! I'm sending this mail because I wan't to be a part of the Fedora Infrastructure (Web Developer). I've read this Getting Started<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/GettingStarted>document but didn't understand the FIG <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/FIGs> and Get Sponsored<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/GettingSponsored>parts. My english is not good enough, so please if you have the time, explain it (like how to get sponsored). ---------------------- About these "skills": Being nice to other hard-working hackers and helping them do what they enjoy => I'm nice to people :) Knowing how to write scripts for system administration => This is problematic for me, I have never written scripts like this... Knowing how to write web applications using Python and SQL or equivalent technologies (*** we can especially use skills in this area ***) => I do know Python very well, although I don't use it for web applications, this is a thing I'd LOVE to learn. I use Python for a variety of scripts including CGI: check out my reference site at http://sandorlev.selfip.org (it can be down, I run it on my PC) Yeah this isn't a real reference site, I use it for nmapping and tracerouting when I'm at school :) Knowing how the Fedora project works behind the scenes => I'm writing because I want to know! Have previous systems admin experience => I use Fedora at home, but the only user of the PC is me, so... Have access to your own testing machines for testing and proof of concepts (Huge plus! Our resources are limited, especially for testing) => I use Fedora at home :) Work in other areas of Fedora like Packaging or Documentation => I would work as a translator, but I don't have that much time... ---------------------- So in a nutshell: I'm a 15-year-old Hungarian boy who wants to help in Fedora development, wants to get experience in web-apps, loves Python and programming and Linux! -- Sándor Levente

FTF (FedoraTalk FAD) IRC Meeting this TUESDAY @ 3 PM EDT (19:00 UTC)

Time: 3 PM EDT (19:00 UTC) Date: 2009-10-07 Location: #fedora-fad Thanks for responses from Jared, Jeff, and Paul. It looks like this coming Tuesday at 3 PM EDT is the best time to meet. I'm hoping we can meet briefly for the next three weeks at this time to have some real time conversations about getting ready for the event. So far we've had some good conversations on the list about what version of Asterisk we'll be using so hopefully we can get that sorted out soon. Any other things like this that we can discuss and complete in advance will go a long way towards giving us the best shot of coming out of the FAD with the best working configuration possible! To get prepared I've been reading the O'Reilly Asterisk book which then led me to wonder what our own setup looks like. This resulted in me joining the Fedora sysadmin group. So I was glad to have more time to get familiar with Fedora's infrastructure environment and get setup things like this out of the way now instead of wasting half of the first day of the FAD trying to get set up. If there are other things that we should all be thinking about, please send them to the list or add them to the wiki page. I also think we need to come up with a fun Thanks and talk to you on Tuesday, John

[Test-Announce] 2009-10-08 - Fedora Test Day - RAID (fwd)

FYI, since we are change frozen... :) -Mike Greetings folks, This week features another test day focused on the installer. The topic is all things RAID. The anaconda-devel team has asked for help testing software RAID, BIOS RAID and hardware RAID. While this is specific to installation, I certainly welcome testing using mdadm tools on already installed systems or even general live image testing. Included in the 14 bugs found during last weeks installer test day were 3 additions to the F12Beta blocker list [1]. Thanks again to all who participated. I hope we can give similar attention to RAID this week. If you have support for BIOS or hardware RAID, please do stop by on irc. Your help is needed! The fun starts this this Thursday, October 8 2009 in #fedora-test-day on irc.freenode.net. Introduction

Hey fedora-infrastructure-list, I would like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Derrick, I go by the nick Actown in IRC and I am currently a first year student at Oregon State University studying computer science. I started working with computers from a very young age. I had my own RH9 server on my home connection when I was 13. I ran a few websites and a IRCserver on that old box. I have had a home server running Linux ever since then and I have been using Linux on and off for my desktop needs. I know tiny bits of C/C++ and python. I have done most of my code using PHP and MySQL, but I am working at my C skills currently. I am looking to help in any system administration area of the fedora infrastructure. Helping fedora would provide me with a great learning experience and a great way to help the world of Linux and open source. I'm located in Corvallis, Oregon and the time zone here is UTC-0700 (PDT). I am interested on joining the team because I haven't given anything back to the community in the time I have been using Linux. Also, helping can provide me with real world experience with system administration and teamwork. Hey guys, Could people who are using the publictest machines please make sure that the wiki pages for those machines are currently up to date? For instance, I am trying to find the person currently testing sogod on publictest15 after an out of space alert came up, however, looking at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/Server/publictest15 I cannot tell who is running sogod. If you have finished testing stuff, it'd also be appreciated if you can disable related services etc so they aren't running needlessly (the resources can then be used for other projects). hosts for rawhide build chroots - different rpm versions?

Hi, AFAIK the build hosts are RHEL5 (or maybe F10 by now?). At any rate the rpm used in rawhide is quite different than the ones from the hosts, how has this been solved in the build hosts? Has the hosting OS upgraded its rpm to be compatible to all hosted chroots? Or is the rpm within the chroot used? I'm asking in a double context: First I'd like to understand if smart can properly handle chroots of rawhide/F11 on F10/RHEL5 hosts. Anders Björklund (in the Cc, please keep him there on replies) has put a great deal of effort to have smart working on F10 and F11, and a smart version for managing F11 and later chroots on F10 or earlier would be great. And second I'd like to know how to setup a build environment for F11 for getting some ATrpms packages out. Thanks! -- Axel.Thimm at ATrpms.net
