I cannot retrieve mail on Gmail (using IMAP) in Kmail any more. This has worked for many years, but it failing now with
Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app
This app has not been verified yet by Google in order to use Google Sign In.
How can I read mail with Kmail any more?

A known issue apparently Garry :-
https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-pim/2019-August/042400.html
I managed to now retrieve Email by setting up two step verification (again) and once setup generate a verification password for use with Kmail etc..
However I cannot send Email from Gmail and I assume this is related.

What is your config? I use:
smtp.gmail.com
Encryption: SSL/TLS Port: 465 Authentication: PLAIN
Interesting, mine is:-
smtp.gmail.com Encryption: STARTTLS Port: 587 Authentication: XOAUTH2
These settings where detected/set by Auto Detect
What error do you get?
Just a time out error, I'll try your settings and report back.

I used your settings and it works fine now, Thanks very much for the tip.
It will be interesting to see the fixes to PIM in applications 19.08 from zawertun's COPR when its built.
Thanks again,
Colin

You need to use App passwords as described in Richard's link. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
Previously only needed for sending mail (smtp password) but now needed for receiving (imap) too because they disabled Oauth for KMail.
But to make it work, you need to change a couple of settings.
in Configure>Receiving>Modify... Go to the Advanced Tab In Connection Settings, don't use Auto-detect with "Gmail" as Authentication. Instead use:
Encryption: SSL/TLS Port: 993 Authentication: NTLM
And use this with your App password given by Google.
Best regards,
Robert-André

Very nice.
I tried the app password before posting here and it failed. The key was not to use Authentication: Gmail. NTLM was *not* offered here. I chose PLAIN and I'm back to normal receiving mail.
This answer is a test of sending. :-)
