Hi,
I have recently been having USB removable drive problems, on plugging in my camera or USB pen drive the device notifier does not pop up, if I click on the icon no devices are shown. Sometimes the pen drive can be accessed and it shows up in the device notifier but I am asked for my root password:
"Authentication is required to mount /dev/mapper/mpathbp1"
All was fine about a week ago so I guess some update has caused this problem. Any ideas which packages are related to this as I am puzzled to what it could be.
This is on F18/KDE-4.10
The devices are seen in dmsg and in kcmshell4 kcmusb..
CD/DVD drive is fine and appear in the device notifier once a disk is put in.
It might not be KDE related, but I'm not sure. Is anyone else seeing this?
I'll pop over to bugzilla and kde.bugs to see what I can find later on in the week.
Colin

In cases such as this the first thing I do is "tailf /var/log/messages" as I plugin the device to see if the kernel is detecting anything....

I do but omitted to mention that I checked "messages" as well.
Note.. After an update today, the Camera is now fine but not the USB pen drive, which maybe related to this bug:

Slightly OT, but you should be using "journalctl -f" instead these days.
Thanks for that reminder. Old habits are hard to break..... Or maybe it is habits of old people are hard to break.... :-)
I've got what appears to be the same issue - this time with F19 x86_64 on KDE 4.9 - which is AFAIK the latest on the standard repo. I read about a guy who had the same issue on KDE 4.9 on osuse12.2 too.
I have a laptop and a tower - both with identical rpms installed, and they both used to work fine on F16, but the both exhibit this misbehavour in F18.
Oddly, my Sony camcorder is detected, but my Galaxy S2 phone isn't.
I don't understand why you're on 4.10. Are you on a beta release?
