I would like to get that issue solved, and I would prefer to avoid syslinux completely on the image where it has no use - for example by using a patch like the one I proposed.
It was however my impression that the preferred solution was a split-up of syslinux to just get rid of the perl dependency. I don't like that, but it would be an improvement.
I do however not understand ... how can comps.xml be the problem or a solution?

Would it help to have an IRC meeting to go over proposed patches? If they are to the point that the functionality intended is OK and they just need some sort of sanity review I'm willing to do some of the reviews and commits. When we get through another chunk of these I'm willing to do the 033 build for rawhide.

Yeah, it would be nice to try to schedule something this week and work through all the outstanding patches and stay updated

Evenings other than Thursday are the best times for me, but I can make other times if they don't conflict with a meeting or the like. I am in the CDT time zone (-0500).
