Hi everybody,
I see the ticket of FranciscoD on the Planet, and I offer my help. I'm not a sponsored packager, but can I co-maintain a package (I've got some basics in the rpm build process)? I can do other things that not needed big skills in medical/programming. If I can help the the medical profession Iwould be very happy ;)
Thank you in advance,
Alexandre, Fedora User and Ambassador --

Fantastic! Have you seen the minutes of last nights meeting?

We now have a concrete base to work from and time-frame to guide.
Glad to work together.

Hi, Thank for your response,
Yes I read the minute. I can help to packaging, but I'm not,for the time being, a sponsored packager. I can co-maintain a package or build a new (on this list: https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-medical/report/1 ?) Have you an idea for a package?
Thank you in advance,
Alexandre, Fedora User and Ambassador

There are quite a few packages. You could start with one of my fedora-medical packages if you want to. Here are ones that I maintain that could use a co-maintainer:
aeskulap: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/aeskulap dcm4che-test: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/dcm4che-test freediams: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/freediams freemedforms: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/freemedforms python-hl7: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/python-hl7 xmedcon: https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/xmedcon
freemedforms and freediams are under heavy development and require work from time to time. I haven't had to update the others since I packaged them.
Why don't you have a look and see where you want to get started? Once you find a package that interests you, please let us know and we can mail the devel lists requesting you be sponsored as a co-maintainer.
I'll be delighted to help you learn packaging and then you can package up other things that interest you too! :)

Thank for your reply. I'd like to be a packager, so I'd like to package a new apllication. Ledgersmb looks really good, no? (https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-medical/ticket/1 ) I can package, but if you want to guide me for the process, it would be really nice ;)
Thank you in advance.
Ps: But if you want, I can co-maintain freemedforms and freediams

Hi,
I'm sorry for the dupes. But ledgersmb seems very difficult ( see http://sourceforge.net/projects/ledger-smb/files/ledgersmb/1.3.34/ledgersmb-... ) Well, I prefer co-maintain an existing package (freemedforms and freediams) or build a 'simple' package...

Yeah. I thought it was quite tough for a beginner too. However, I didn't want to discourage you from starting on it :)

Please send a mail to the devel list saying you'd like to co-maintain the package with me and that you require sponsorship to do so. I'll chime in and confirm that you've already talked to me and that I agree to help you learn packaging along the way :)
I'll see if I can find a simple package for you to get started on in the mean time. Mario, Sébastien, would you have a simple package for Alexandre to begin working on?

I have had a look at 3D Slicer, and its build instructions seem well documented (though the build process is quite slow): http://www.slicer.org/slicerWiki/index.php/Slicer4:Build_Instructions
Perhaps this would be an interesting project? There is also medInria and Icy: http://med.inria.fr/ http://icy.bioimageanalysis.org/
As far as Orthanc is concerned, I am working on a development package and on a FUSE filesystem, but it is still WIP (expect nothing before, say, November). Maybe you could also help Mario in porting the Orthanc package to RHEL and CentOS via EPEL?
Just my two pennies worth... Sébastien-

Thanks Sebastien,
Alexandre, you've been sponsored as a package maintainer. Please apply on the packagedb now and I'll approve your request.
Eric, the freemedforms/freediams upstream has announced a 0.9.0-beta3. We're using a beta1, and while I don't think we need to update the fedora packages until 0.9.0 stable is released, it'll be good practice for you to make modifications to the spec and build it locally. Please get the spec from the fedora SCM, and update it to use the beta3 sources. (Please do not kick off any official releases until you've shown the spec/srpm to me first.)
You can also get started with the packages that Sebastien has pointed out above. If you have queries, please mail me offlist or catch me in #fedora-join on the IRC.
