Exceptions for packages placing files into /bin, /sbin, /lib or /lib64

According to the packaging guidelines [1] packages for F17+ must not place files or directories into /bin, /sbin, /lib or /lib64. mp3 source (but not compiled) in squeak package

I'm sure I've seen discussion of this before, but I can't find it in the mailing list, and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Forbidden_items?rd=ForbiddenItems#MP3_Support doesn't spell it out. The Squeak VM package in Fedora includes the upstream source code for MP3 support, but disables actually building it. requiring a (non-specific) font?

I happened to install Scratch onto a remove VM (on Fedora Infrastructure's new private cloud, in fact) where no fonts were installed. It runs, but Pango throws warnings about not having anything for 'latin' or 'common' -- and of course the UI has boxes where the menus and variables should be. I could require something generic, like 'font(:lang=en)', but that's likely to pull in a random decorative font. I could require some specific font, but that seems wrong. (Particularly since if a "better" match for latin or common happen to be installed, whatever I said is a requirement will actually be irrelevant.) change to icon scriptlets to use -f flag seems wrong

Just noticed today while doing a review that the ScriptletSnippets currently say to use gtk-update-icon-cache -f The change seems to be introduced here by spot, https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Packaging%3AScriptletSnippets&d… This change seems to remove the optmization of using the conditionized 'touch' statements and moving it to %posttrans to gain the advantage to run only once per icon theme per transaction. So, why? ( error, oversight, or is there some other good reason )? -- rex

Error with desktop-file-install

Hi there, I am packaging the new package: pencil [1]. Finally, necessary changes (folder, package released, etc.) have been made in upstream. I also updated .spec file and retried to build the package. However, I got his error message (It seems to relate to the new entry desktop-file-install): Checking for unpackaged file(s): /usr/lib/rpm/check-files /home/tuanta/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/pencil-2.0-2.fc17.x86_64 error: Installed (but unpackaged) file(s) found: /usr/share/applications/pencil.desktop RPM build errors: Installed (but unpackaged) file(s) found: /usr/share/applications/pencil.desktop Any helps are highly appreciated. Using upstream unusual package name

guayadeque package review and bundled files

I am working on a package preview for guayadeque https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853553#c9 Brandon told me that i have to alk the devel list regarding 'bundled libraries' It seems that the guayadeque sources contains some bundled libraries, wxsqlite and wxcurl (wxMD5?). has the code submitted as a separate package ? package naming -- axis2 version 1.4

Another bizarre package naming question from the java world: Axis2 version 1.4 and version 1.6 seem to generate very different code from WSDLs. During the Fedora 17 cycle, I packaged 1.6 simply because it was latest, and I hoped that I could make it work for my needs. I have not been able to, and so I'd like to contribute a version 1.4 package for compatibility. However, I have no idea how to go about naming a package like this. The official upstream project is "Axis2", and the normal scheme would be confusing ("axis214"). I could use something like "axis2v14". Any thoughts or recommendations on this? Thanks. Andy

glibc-devel (or libstdc++-devel) not BuildRequires exceptions?

Was about to comment on a review that BuildRequires: glibc-devel isn't needed and was in the list of exceptions, and was to link the list http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#Exceptions_2 only to discover it indeed is not there. Shouldn't it be? A Similar argument could probably be made for libstdc++-devel -- rex
