F24 Beta Release Notes (coming next week)

Hello all, Before going further, please note this is a cross-posted thread! There is a low-traffic mailing list, logistics(a)lists.fedoraproject.org, which was created for multi-list collaboration on things like this topic. To centralize discussion, please consider using that list for replies (even if you unsubscribe after the discussion finishes). Anyways, assuming all goes according to plan, the F24 Beta is due to land on May 3rd, or in seven days from today. Therefore, it's time to review and look over the release notes for the F24 Beta. The current draft can be found on the wiki. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F24_Beta_release_announcement As of now, it is a forked version of the Alpha release announcement with a few changes based on information I gathered from #fedora-qa. If you could take some time to review the release notes and ensure everything is *current* and correct since the Alpha release for areas you are familiar and knowledgeable with, that would be appreciated so we can aim to ship this next week. Call for testing: Server validation tests for Fedora 24 Beta

Hey folks! So we have a set of release validation tests for Fedora Server. Per the release process, these tests have to be run for each milestone release to be approved. Up till now, sgallagh has been doing a lot of this testing, and I've been doing a little. sgallagh is going to have very limited time for it going forward, and I don't think I'm going to be able to take over all the load, so it'd be great if people could step up to help out. You can always find the 'current' Server release validation page at this address: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Server_Test There are image download links at the top of the page. Every few days a new compose will become the 'current' one, and ideally we should do as much testing as we can for each compose. But we absolutely *need* to do the testing when we build a 'candidate' compose that may be ready for release; I'll make sure to mail the list when that happens. The firewall tests are automated by openQA so they're low priority for manual testing, but unfortunately we haven't managed to automate the other tests yet, I've been working on that for a while but it's been slow going :/ The trickiest ones to do are the Active Directory ones, I am not in fact set up to do those as I have no AD domain. The FreeIPA tests are next hardest. Tests marked 'Alpha' and 'Beta' must be done for Fedora 24 Beta to go out. Tests marked 'Final' don't *have* to be run at Beta, but it's good if we can. So I know everyone's busy, but if everyone could spare an hour or two a week to hit up the Current page and run some tests on whatever compose is 'current' at the time, that'd be great. You can enter your results by editing the wiki directly, or if that's not your idea of fun, you can use my 'relval' tool, which provides a fairly simple CLI for reporting results. Just run 'dnf install relval' then 'relval report- results' and it will walk you through the process. relval writes the results into the wiki page for you, so after submitting your results you can refresh the page and see them show up. Recommendation: include NetworkManager-team package by default

We slimmed down the Server default configuration to remove some NM packages we don't need, but we also excluded the relatively-new NetworkManager-team package which provides support for "team" devices (a newer kind of user-space bonding interface). This is probably worth including in the default configuration, since a sizeable percentage of real-world servers will want to bond their network devices together for better throughput. If the Server WG agrees, I'll patch comps.xml.

Self Introduction (fsaez)

Hi all, I'm Felipe Saez, born in Chile, I have 24 years old and currently pursuing a dual degree (IT Business and Computer Science) at the University Adolfo Ibañez[1]. I have been a GNU / Linux user since 2003. The first distribution I used was Red Hat 9.0 and from there I felt in love with the OS that much that I am a promoter of GNU / Linux since that time. During my High School years, I managed servers and promoted the use not only in the classroom but also at home. Between 2011 and 2015 I worked as a sysadmin at my previous university, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María[2]. As part of my job there I was always involved in servers´management and services running on top of GNU / Linux (some Windows too, but less). I worked with and learned software like RHEVM, Apache, MySQL, Samba, BIND, OpenStack, among others. Also I mastered the use of GNU / Linux for networking tasks, like Proxy, DHCP, firewall, iSCSI, etc. Nowadays I am currently working at my university as a Research Assistant, in topics related to IoT. In particular I am working in in-house and enterprise software stacks for IoT, such as FiWare. Continuing the steps I followed at high school, I keep promoting the use of open-source software at the university (for projects, testing, business tools, among others). Some of the goals I would like to accomplish (if I am selected to work at your organisation) is to increase the use of Fedora Server on the OpenStack platform - on which I have experience. This is key for me since this is the platform we use at the university to create VMs for students. Also, as my research is related to IoT and I am using the Fiware platform for this, I would like to create FiWare components’ images in Fedora Server, which will lead in both a better integration and rapid deployment. This also will bring Fedora server closer to the hot topic of IoT. Academically speaking I would like to approach people Fedora Server within the University, to be used in the classroom, where they can make images and deploy all type of services running on them. In addition as a personal goal, I want to collaborate with Fedora Server using my experiences as sysadmin, bringing new ideas to the table and getting closer the academic world to Fedora using my university as a starting point. I would like to mention that my native language is Spanish, so I can also collaborate on translating Fedora Server-related stuff in such language, as well as supporting users’ experience from Latin America.
