Please use the fdisk output instead. Partition type names are much more useful than numbers.

rid of the mbr record during install, but it just told me that it is required for an mbr system, even when I include the /boot/efi partition as part of the install. And then, it continues to loop forever when trying to install the boot record as mbr.
How do you get rid of the MBR? Are you referring to the BIOS boot partition? The MBR is the first sector on the hard drive.
I give up for the time being. It's strange there isn't a switch that I can set to explicitly tell it to install as UEFI.
The installer can only go with the mode it was booted in. For one thing, if you aren't in UEFI mode, there is no way to configure the boot loader entry.
