working my way through quirks with fedora 23 on new ASUS gaming laptop G752VL-DH71

just replaced an older ASUS laptop with one of these: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_577_1199&item_id=… and working my way through the inevitable configuration issues with a new (and fully-updated) fedora 23. so far, two issues i'd like to resolve. first, not sure how to turn on the keyboard backlight for the laptop's keyboard. i typically use an external USB keyboard, and i use "xset led 3" to get backlighting for that, but i haven't figured out how to do the same for the laptop keyboard. and second, i added a M.2 format 512G ADATA SSD in one of the two available slots for that form factor: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1229_1296&item_id… but f23 doesn't see the device at all -- nothing from "lsblk". anyone know the configuration or driver needed for that kind of SSD? thank you kindly. rday

F22 to F23: dnf system-upgrade failure

Hi all, I tried to upgrade to F23 with dnf system-upgrade last night. The download part went smoothly. But it failed during the reboot stage. On booting again, I noticed grub has not been updated, that's when I realised the upgrade had failed. In the journal I see something like this: python3[769]: Starting system upgrade. This will take a while. dnf[769]: Dependencies resolved. dnf[769]: Error: The operation would result in removing the following protected packages: dnf, systemd. systemd[1]: dnf-system-upgrade.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE systemd[1]: dnf-system-upgrade.service: Failed to load environment files: No such file or directory systemd[1]: dnf-system-upgrade.service: Failed to run 'stop-post' task: No such file or directory systemd[1]: dnf-system-upgrade.service: Unit entered failed state. audit[1]: SERVICE_STOP pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 subj=system_u:system_r:init_t:s0 msg='unit=dnf-system-upgrade comm="systemd" exe="/usr/lib/systemd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=? res=failed' systemd[1]: dnf-system-upgrade.service: Failed with result 'resources'. systemd[1]: Rebooting as result of failure. When I tried distro-sync with --allowerasing, I encounter the exact same error. kernel source - "make prepare" - error

Hello, I am trying to compile a module and having a problem. When I run make oldconfig I have no issues but when I try to run "make prepare", I get an error. 4.3.4-300.fc23.x86_64]# make oldconfig scripts/kconfig/conf --oldconfig Kconfig # # configuration written to .config 4.3.4-300.fc23.x86_64]# make prepare scripts/kconfig/conf --silentoldconfig Kconfig make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'arch/x86/entry/syscalls/syscall_32.tbl', needed by 'arch/x86/entry/syscalls/../../include/generated/asm/syscalls_32.h'. Stop. arch/x86/Makefile:191: recipe for target 'archheaders' failed make: *** [archheaders] Error 2 From what I have read, this isn't just a Fedora issue and has appeared over the years. I wish I could get this to work. If I don't get an answer, I will submit a bug report. Thanks

sagemath problem

Yesterday I dnf-installed sagemath on my Fedora-23/KDE laptop. The brought over 200 packages and about 550MB with it. fresh install vs kernel update

Dear friends, When doing a fresh install (fc23) the system boots with kernel 4.3.3-303.fc23.i686+PAE. When updating the system installs kernel 4.3.4-300.fc232+PAE. I have the idea that **304** is newer then **300** ; Or am I wrong? I had two weeks ago big problems ""disk image corrupt"" after an update and had to reinstall FC23. Can you inform me? Hi. Researching dns/naming. (sortof fed!!) Assume I have a server -rackspace/digitalocean/etc.. And I and I want to serve the DNS via something like cloudflare. The test server(s) aren't going to be webservers, they're going to be used to test apps.. As far as I can tell, most of the sites say you need to already have a "name" from a domain name provider. That can't be right, can it!! One can have a dns process internal to an org, providing dns names to machines all over the place. Granted, those machines/names might be internal/private. So, does one need an "actual" real name for an externally facing server in order to process the DNS so one can do a "ssh test(a)foo.com" or can you use something like "ssh test(a)foo.example.com" At the same time.. if you do need a real/actual "domain name" for the externally facing box, digitalocean provides for both public/private networks for the linux instances. If you run a private network, would you then be able to create your own name for the internal instances that would be available to the other instances on the private network?? I've tried asking IRC/support forums, etc.. but not getting any progress.. Thanks for helping me get my head around this..
