FW update from gnome-softwares

Hello, Today I got for the first time a dell Precision 5520 and I saw the firmware(EFI) update from gnome softwares, this is AWESOME! I hope more vendors will push their fw in the near future :). Thanks guys, Alexis.

Why Fedora 26 comes with old Scala version?

Hello, I'm just upgrading a laptop from Fedora 25 to 26. The upgrade process just announced it will downgrade Scala from 2.12 to 2.10. Why Fedora 26 comes with a very old Scala version, when the latest is Scala 2.12.4 and it is available as RPM <http://www.scala-lang.org/download/>? Thanks! Alternatives to "No Native Notifications" Firefox extension.

With Firefox 57 looming on the horizon, this is the only extension that I have that won't work with it. I tinkered with XFCE's notification settings manager, until native notifications look sort of like Firefox's own notifications, but the native ones are still much more compact, take up much less screen real estate, and are much less intrusive. Anyone know of any 57+-compatible alternative, to keep using Firefox's notifications, instead of the system ones?

f26 to f26 cups sharing problem

I'm having a cups sharing issue in what should be a straightforward situation: an existing f26 system (the client) trying to get a remote printer from a freshy installed f26 system (the server). cupsd.conf on the server is set to allow sharing in general and of the desired printer in particular, and the firewalls (server and client) have mdns and ipp-client ports open. Both machines are on the same internal network (192.168.1.4 and 192.168.1.6) and I can ssh between them just fine so the network is ok. On the client side, "avahi-browse -a" shows the printer from the server just fine: + enp9s0 IPv4 HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty Internet Printer local + enp9s0 IPv4 HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty _ipps._tcp local + enp9s0 IPv4 HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty UNIX Printer local However, "cups-browsed -v" has an issue:(running with cups-browsed.service stopped for testing) Avahi Browser: NEW: service 'HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty' of type '_ipp._tcp' in domain 'local' Avahi Browser: CACHE_EXHAUSTED Avahi Browser: ALL_FOR_NOW Avahi Browser: NEW: service 'HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty' of type '_ipps._tcp' in domain 'local' Avahi Browser: CACHE_EXHAUSTED Avahi Browser: ALL_FOR_NOW Avahi-Resolver: Failed to resolve service 'HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty' of type '_ipp._tcp' in domain 'local': Timeout reached listening Avahi-Resolver: Failed to resolve service 'HP Deskjet D2500 series @ liberty' of type '_ipps._tcp' in domain 'local': Timeout reached If I "systemctl restart cups.service" on the server, then retry the browse, the result is: Could not connect to the server liberty.local:631 for Deskjet-D2500-series! So it seems like the broadcast from the server is working but for some reason the server is not allowing the clien to get the additional information from port 631. Port 631 (ipp-client) is allowed by the firewall, and "systemctl stop firewalld" on the server does not change the behavior. The address "liberty.local:631" is suspect, as the server should be liberty.localdomain, but even adding liberty.local to /etc/hosts made no difference. On the server, a netstat shows Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:ipp 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 882/cupsd tcp6 0 0 [::]:ipp [::]:* LISTEN 882/cupsd udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:ipp 0.0.0.0:* 938/cups-browsed so it sure seems like the server is listening on the right port... and this client has no problem connecting to a legacy f14 system. any clues or suggestions?

Any changes to php / httpd that need changes in configurationfiles?

We have problems since an update with php pages (PHP 7.1.10, Apache/2.4.28 (Fedora 27)) I just noticed that changes was made to mariadb-configuration in some way, we had /var/run/mariadb/ as pid dir and this dir was automatic removed so mysql couldnt start.. Have it been made any changes that I need to do? apache logs dont show anything, but php dont work and we made several reinstalles and tryes.. Thanks in advance

F26 Xfce install

Past time to set up a F26 system with Xfce. Should have gotten off F24 months ago, but finally bought a new drive for the install... Anyway, all I see is a live image for F26 Xfce. Does the Netinstall give you the options for which desktop? Or doing an install to a clean drive work off the live ISO? I want complete control over how the partitions are set up. thanks

Bash startup files

Hi, I have a question about the system startup files for bash. The problem I had was that I set up an alias in ~/.bashrc, let's say alias ls="ls -lh" but it didn't work as "alias ls" reported alias ls='ls --color=auto' What happens is that at the end ~/.bashrc sources /etc/bashrc which sources /etc/profile.d/*.sh that redefine "ll". This happens on F24, F25, F26 and CentOS.... Easy to correct, but the question is: is that right? None of the examples I found on line does that and /etc/profile.d/*.sh are already sourced by /etc/profile (which is the first startup file read on login). Is this a quirk of RedHat or an error that still remains in the files or what? GianPiero

cannon mfc 620 scanning

Hi, guys, I have to scan a document into my computer from a cannon mfc620 multifunction printer. It is wifi connected, and I have also a USB connection. Xsane says no device connected and exits. Any help? googling didn't give me anything useful. Regards, Les H

Is there a way to tell smplayer to save "the best formats of audio and video" of a download into mp4. More often than not, it merges the audio file and video file into mkv; to wit: youtube-dl -ci <the youtube url> .... . . . Requested formats are incompatible for merge and will be merged into mkv. . . Thanx!
