Create bootable disk with fedora - but not using live-CD

I want to create a bootable USB stick that runs fedora. I do not want to create a Live-CD USB stick because live-CD fails to boot on my main PC. And no one seems to know how to fix this. By using a read-write USB stick I can add in debug code to the boot process and try to findout what is hanging the boot process. What my google-fu is failed to do is figure out how to find instruction on how to do this with getting live-CD instructions. I'm guessing that I should be able to use anaconda or dnf to get the heavy lifting done. Does anyone know what the steps I need to follow are? Barry

cron is failing to run for selinux context, but everything looks fine

Recently, I've noticed that some jobs that are started by dwatch, aren't starting. If I start them manually, they start fine. dwatch is in cron.d, and should be running every 5 minutes, but no cron jobs are running. I see the following in journalctl, Jul 28 10:07:08 localhost.localdomain crond[1192]: (root) FAILED (loading cron table) Jul 28 10:07:08 localhost.localdomain crond[1192]: ((null)) No SELinux security context (/etc/crontab) but when I check the security context, it seems fine to me. -rw-r--r--. 1 0 0 system_u:object_r:system_cron_spool_t:s0 451 Jul 24 2019 /etc/crontab Before I open a bugzilla, I wanted to check if anyone has an explanation for this, and a fix.

Curious Mystery Of Killed Process

Gentle People: I have a question about "The Curious Mystery Of Killed Process At 4:56 AM"? For some while now I have been developing a optimization application, which depending on the machine may run for several days. The development process has played out over a month or more of testing, finding many bugs including several Segmentation Fault Crashes, which are usually found and fixed with the help of GDB. Now I have a new one: After running for several days the application terminates, and prints "Killed" in the shell window. Now know this did not likely occur via the keyboard because of physical security. Can a process kill itself? Is this simply caused by a bug which must be chased down? Could this be caused by a shortage of resources? Memory? Threads? Is there a limit on the number of threads? I am running GCC 4.4.7 on CentOS 7.0 Thank You for any thoughts. Thomas Dineen

Various bugs with the new 5.7 kernel on Fedora 32

I just upgraded to the new 5.7 kernel and it has a lot of bugs. Fonts "forgotten" on boot (changes to font cache)

I've been dealing with this absolutely bizarre issue for a few weeks now where installed fonts seem to be "forgotten" on boot. My desktop is a combination of tiling window manager (i3) and status bar (polybar), and when I start up my computer I find that the compact bitmap font (curie, manually installed) that the status bar is supposed to use has been replaced by a much larger and uglier font. After digging around to see if either of the above programs were the cause of it (some change made to the status bar's configuration when updating the program, etc.), I discovered that apparently the font I assigned to the status bar was no longer part of the system font cache--"fc-list | grep curie" returns nothing. The bizarre part is, the font files are still in their directory in /usr/share/fonts/, and running "sudo fc-cache -fv" results in the fonts both appearing on my status bar and showing up when I run "fc-list." But this has become a regular issue as I said for several weeks--it took some time to recognize this as a persistent issue and not just some accidental consequence of me mucking around somewhere that I shouldn't have. If I had to try and be more specific I'd say the problem has existed since kernel 5.7 was released in F32 (not saying I think it's kernel-related, but that's the only milestone I can think of to date this problem). I know very little about how fonts work in Linux in general and am hoping someone could shed some light on why this may be happening. In my limited understanding, it seems like something is happening to my font cache at shutdown/startup that is causing at least some fonts to be excluded even though they are still installed in the system font directory. I'm assuming some other program/process is making some sort of change to the font cache, but as this is the system and not user font directory, wouldn't said program/process need to have elevated permissions to make these changes? How would I even begin trying to track down what's responsible for this issue? Thank you in advance.

Touchpad stopped working with version 32 (perhaps earlier?) At one point there was an X.org configuration required, but that appears to have become irrelevant. Is there a FAQ?

SATA3 _A1, SATA3_ 2, etc. -

There are four SATA data connectors on a new main board. Usually I just plug in to them as convenient disregarding the numeric designations. Is there a proper order in which to connect two or three drives and what is it. Neither the board manual or my google searching have been any help. The connectors are labeled: SATA3 _A1 SATA3_1 SATA3 _A2 SATA3_ 2 Can someone tell me what order to use them in or if it matters? Relating to Rawhide

If you are not interested in Rawhide basics, please hit the delete button now. This post is aimed at people who may not know what Rawhide really is, or how it gets updated, etc. The link below is a Dropbox link, showing a list of packages installed on my computer. https://paper.dropbox.com/published/Status-of-my-Rawhide-Workstation-instal… My Rawhide computer has been performing nominally, ( without hiccups ) since I installed the unofficial iso. This list shows that some of the packages come from Anaconda. I assume, ( feel free to correct me ), that those packages have not changed, since I did the install. Right ?? Also note there are two different suffixes in the filenames "fc32," and "fc33." Obviously, fc33 are the packages that have been updated and re-labeled to show they are going to be in the upcoming Version 33 of Fedora. What those suffixes actually do in the server, meaning as to what repo they are in, I will let someone else explain all that. I assume those packages with fc32 suffix are identical to what you have if you are using fc32 Workstation. For example, the package "bash" is apparently fc32. As you can see, most of the important packages are updated in someway and have the fc33 suffix. Meaning lots of hardwork has been done by people. Thank you to those volunteers, etc. Note that there is one package "fc31," that being "trousers." As you can see, the kernel is the latest rc7 available. Since 5.7.0 will go stable in a few days, I assume that the next kernel I get will be 5.8.0.rc0.git### or something like that, or at least that will be the kernel on my install, in about two weeks. Feel free to correct me. Unfortunately, I have had little access to my computer in the past month, due to not having a stable place to reside, and that will likely be the case for me this summer. I am looking forward to reading about how Fedora performs on the upcoming Raspberry Pi 4, with 8 GB of RAM. Another sad note, is that due to my financial situation, I had to downgrade to a less expensive phone service provider, and in doing so I ended up with a refurbished iPhone. I have never used an iPhone before, and now I am doing most of my internet needs on the iPhone. Actually, I am just using the hotspot on it, and still doing most of my stuff on my old Android Alcatel 3V. Cheers, David Locklear Novice Rawhide user P.S. video in Firefox not streaming

hello, I am sorry to ask this here but am wondering why the last couple of times I have installed Fedora 32 workstation, video playback in Firefox is not working out of the box for some sites. So I can play videos on youtube, but for example, trying to play a video in cnn.com ("something went wrong during native playback") does not work, or playing some video from Twitter("media could not be played") does not work either. Am I missing the Flash Player? What am I missing here? thank you,
