Dear friends,
I have been e-mailed a pdf file and I wanted to know who the author was and what the date/time of creation was. Is it possible for me to find this information using tools available on the F24 repositories?
Many thanks and best wishes, Ranjan

Ranjan,
imbw, tho i do believe such info being contained within a .pdf file would be determined by the pdf file composer.
if a pdf composer does include such info, you can search source of pdf file for _viewable_ text with;
hexdump -C filename.pdf|less or hexdump -C filename.pdf>save2textfile
if pdf file is 'notable', you could try a web search to see if there has been any write ups.
much luck.

That information is not necessarily available, but if you right-click the document in Nautilus, choose properties and go to the Document tab, it will show you the information that is available.

A command-line tool might be pdfinfo -- part of the xpdf package.

Many of the PDF viewers can show you properties about the file (just look through the menus), however it only shows the data that the person lets be included. They can use false names, they can strip out personal data, they may have created the PDF long before they sent it, etc.
