Hi all,
After an update to Fedora29 I can print but not scan anymore with a HP officejet 4620 in WLAN.
When running HP-check I get two messages : cups required incompat : cups may nt be installed or running . cups is installed and running.
python3-notify2 needs to be installed : Question where can I "find it"
Has anyone the same experience ?
Regards,
Ger van Dijck.

Obvious question: have you installed the hplip package?

Well, hp-check is part of the hplip-gui package so I'd guess the answer is "yes".
FWIW, I get a whole bunch of "errors" running hp-check including those above and scanning works.
I get this as part of the output. My printer is connected on the LAN.

Oke Ed I agree.

Oke Ed I agree : But I can nowhere find python3-notify2 . All sorts of python3 etc etc but even with "rpm find" no python3-notify2 . Next question is of course what does this lib do and is it really needed ?

When connected with an USB cable I get device 4l:/dev/video is a noname integrated laptop webcam HD etc. and device hpaio:/dev/usb/officejet 4620 series?serial=CN31F241NZ05RT is a HewlettPackard Officejet 4620 series all in one .
So when connected with an USB cable prting and scanning goes fine .
When connected on WLAN the camera of the laptop is discovered but the HP4620 not : Therefore the scanfunction , this is evident does not functionate .
All is clear but how can I find a solution for this problem ?-- Using Opera's mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

Hi Ed ,
I get back on this problem : Surprise surprise on 21.01.2019 suddenly while updating Fedora29 is installed python3-cairosvg_1.0.20-9 and You don't believe python3-notify2-03.1-1-9 !!!!
Question : Where does is come from and what does it "do" ?
On 05.02.2019 Hplip -* , Hplib-common -* , Hplip qui -* and Hplip-libis 3.18.12-3 is updated : But still no possibility to scan .
Please advise .
Additional question : Is there no interrest for HP to get this function working ? In my view there is a large LInux community . Maybe thy are in love with MicroSoft ?
Regards ,
Ger van Dijck .

What desktop do you use?
Both python3-notify2 and python3-cairosvg are required by dnfdragora-updater of KDE. Neither package seems to be related to any print/scan functions.
You can always do "dnf erase python3-notify2" to see what it will try to erase.

When using the LAN, does the printer and scanner show up when you use the GUI "hp-toolbox"

Not sure about your printer but with our HP printer, we have to reinstall the HP proprietary scanning driver every so often.

Ah, hah.
Thanks for jogging my memory.
I can't be sure, but you may need to install the HP Plugin to get scanning working on your printer.
So, run hp-plugin as root to download and install the Plugin.

Bit late but I always just open Xsane and it then give an HP Device Manager Plug-in Installer dialog.
Click Next
Another dialog opens and I select the download option and then the Next button.
Read and agree to the license agreement.
Then it is installed and working.
