I have a System76 netbook, several years old, running Fedora -- 24 iirc. I put it behind the KVM switch that my PCs are on, and it accepts input from my keyboard, but it displays only on its own screen, not on the monitor that the PCs all use. Any ideas??

Most KVM switches are dumb and don't look like a monitor is plugged in, so if you boot without the KVM switched to the computer, the video is screwed up. If you can extract the EDID from the monitor, you can tell the linux kernel that is what the monitor looks like even when it can't actually read it. See:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/EDID/HOWTO.txt
Don't know that is your problem, but it might be :-).
