I've noticed that some other people mentioned that they couldn't install the new kernel thru up2date... I'm also experiencing this problem. If I try to use up2date, it tells me that it has an invalid GPG signature, and the file was corrupted. I've also tried downloading the rpm manually, and using the rpm commandline to install it. When I try that, it complains: error: kernel-2.4.22-1.2129.nptl.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 4f2a6fd2 error: kernel-2.4.22-1.2129.nptl.i686.rpm cannot be installed
thx!

Hi, Kevin,
Same problem here, let's hope we get some help. I am sure lots of us check updates daily, so somebody is bound to know what is causing this.

Arturo

The src.rpm is corrupt. I posted a Bugzilla this morning.

I had the same trouble and after removing both the rpm and hdr file in my local /var/spool/up2date dir. Then up2date/yum fetched a good one and things installed fine.
In my case it was the src rpm file. I did not save the bad file so I have no way to see what the trouble was.
Move your troubled .rpm+.hdr files off to a scratch dir and give it a retry.

The "BAD, key ID xxx" is a hint that the problem is that RPM doesn't recognize the GPG key that signed the rpm as one it should trust, not that the file is corrupted. It has a GPG key, but RPM doesn't like it.
Do this:
1) Verify you do not have this GPG key; here's what I see when I DO have the key:

2) Import the Fedora key to your rpm keyring (it's strange that you don't have this already -- you should also check that you have the "fedora-release-1-3" rpm installed):
# rpm --import /usr/share/doc/fedora-release-1/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora
3) Try installing the RPM again.
You could tell RPM to not perform its digital signature checks (check the rpm man page), but that's just avoiding the problem.
Hi..
Or maybe the package is corrupt.
You can test with
rpm -i --test package.rpm
If you receive the same message about the key, mean that's is corrupt.

It *still* doesn't help me install the kernel source file from Fedora properly. It still gives me the same GPG error. I double checked and I have seen no update to the file since it was posted at 12:22 UTC.

That would be it. As others have now pointed out, it may very well be that not all of the file was downloaded. But I have tried both yum and RHN, and I get the same error. Now, here's a question: How do I add mirrors to RHN and yum.conf? Yum.conf just sounds like I give a site a name and blammo, I'm there. Is that right? As for Up2date, I assume I need to run update-config.
Question: how fast are the mirror sites in getting the updates, compared with the master at RH? I'll try downloading the kernel source file manually from one of those sites tomorrow. Or, if someone responds timely, how to alter tum.conf or RHN to work with mirrors.
Thanks all for the responses!

Gnome gurus,
One more question to scratch your head over.
I am making weather radar images using proprietary software. Now, here's the rub...
When I ran this software under RH-9, the background was always black, which was what was desired. But in FC-1, the background imagery is always white. This, when the software has the background turned "off". So, Gnome supplies the color.
This might be a bug, or is there a way to make background images and programs to have a dark, black background instead of white?

Glad we identified the problem.

For yum, you probably want to replace the default repo URL with your desired mirror URL -- adding another section (with name, URL, etc.) would make yum check both the original and the mirror site (probably not what you want). You can put multiple urls in each [server] entry in yum.conf but yum will consider those as a list of servers to try until it successfully connects to one, not the much more complex behavior of connecting to all of the listed urls and trying to figure out which one is the fastest. So you will have to decide which mirror is fastest manually and set that one as the first/only repo in the yum.conf setting.
For up2date I think you just get one url per "site" so, again, you have to find the best mirror for yourself manually.
Question: how fast are the mirror sites in getting the updates, compared with the master at RH?
It seems that announcements aren't made until mirror sites are already updated. So you shouldn't generally have to wait unless your particular mirror is having problems.
