Hi All,
Xfce 4.13 Fedora 29 x64
How do I mount my cell phone as a "Media Device" (MTP)?
-T
I am still on F28, but I believe I just installed gvfs-mtp.
But recently, Thunar has been crashing when I mount my phone and I have to restart it.

Hi Robert,
That did the trick. Thank you!
I also have Thunar crash the first time I open my camera. The second time is does not crash, but it does not see anything inside my camera.
I opened bug on it. You may wish to follow it: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15172

I will take a look at the bug. On my Galaxy S4, it takes time before the contents of a directory show up.
I can click on 'phone' folder on the left and all the folders show up immediately. I can then easily drag things like movies into the movies folder (actually mp4 lectures). But if I click on the sounds directory to get to audios I recorded, I wait. And wait, and finally they show up and I can drag them to my computer.
I have learned patience. It has been like this for all of F28. It did not do this back in F24.
But the crashing is recent, like about a month ago. I remember a Thunar update and then the problem. Then at least one more Thunar update but still the problem. Perhaps people just do not use mtp much.

It works fine with Gnome. There was an MTP-related crashing problem a couple of releases ago, but that was fixed reasonably quickly.

I have been too busy with other issues to report this.
I will look at Todd's bug report and add to it...

This was also missing for me. (i use fedora-xfce) . But my Nokia 8 still won't mount. argh i've lost the logs right now. But basically it's doing some stupid CDROM mount thing for the drivers first like usb_modeswitch does for modems. i'm quite sure i've mounted it on gnome fedora without issue. anyone has an idea?

Again, my Galaxy S4 is a Verizon phone. It first mounts a Verizon CDROM drive to install the Verizon windows software. I just wait (normally) and this times out and then the Samsung device is offered and mounted.
Have you turned on mtp support on your Nokia?

I was just realizing that since the crashes started, I am no longer seeing the Verizon CD mounting first and then timing out...
Also the last access Thunar instance in the active workspace crashes. If I have 3 open, only one crashes. Also if I had accessed a Thunar instance in another workspace then switched workspaces, it seems that the one in the active workspace is the one that crashes.
Very wierd.
I do NOT want to go back to Nautilus.

I dont' blame you. You can remove it after you test with it
# dnf remove nautilus
It has gotten a lot better though. I use three file managers now: Thunar, krusader, and now nautilus.
Love the dnf remove feature.
:-)

My way, works without problems:
sudo dnf install simple-mtpfs
/etc/auto.master ... home/bob/MTP /etc/auto.master.d/auto.mtp --timeout=30 --ghost ...
/etc/auto.master.d/auto.mtp ... AnyMPT -fstype=fuse,allow_other,umask=000 :simple-mtpfs ...

Are yo able to see your phone with Nautulis?

Yes.

It shows up fine (actually in Dolphin). I've been hoping to find it somewhere in the main file system, so I could use shell tools to find out various things about it: the data base of contacts, etc.

All the app databases are protected and you can't access them unless you root your phone.
