Hi All,
Do we have something like this
https://pkgs.org/download/usb-creator-gtk
kicking around under another name?
Target is to create bootable SUB sticks from iso's that don't follow dd convention for iso's, such as M$ iso's.
Many thanks, -T

I wonder if it will do the M$ ISO's?

Yes, it does. It works with all bootable ISOs I tested. It semms just to be some kind of GUI for dd. At least it does the same thing as dd.

Isn't that particular to Fedora images?
Maybe livecd-iso-to-disk from the livecd-tools package would work. It seems more generic, but I haven't tried it with other ISOs.

Per documentation at: https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2016/04/26/fedora-media-writer-the-fastes... Fedora Media Writer works with both Linux and Windows.

It *runs* on both Linux and Windows, but is designed only for writing Fedora (and RHEL) ISO images. From that article: "it downloads and writes your favorite Fedora flavor onto a USB drive".

I see that it does have a "Custom OS" option, but that's for picking an ISO that isn't one of the first two options. The Windows installer ISO is not a live image like Fedora creates. But feel free to try it out and let us know what happens.

Nope.

The WoeUSB package is designed to write Windows ISO files to USB. It's far more likely to support Windows than the MediaWriter tool which is primarily for writing Fedora images.
The custom image support in MediaWriter might work for some, but I'd be surprised if were regularly tested against or worked reliably with Windows images.

I did get WoeUSB to work with Windows 10. It boots both legacy and eUFI. My notes:
How to create Bootable M$ ISO's in Linux:
# dnf install WoeUSB
example: # woeusb --target-filesystem NTFS --device Win10_1809_English_x64.iso /dev/sd[x]

Reading the documentation, you will notice is "runs" under both Linux and Windows, but only creates Fedora images.

That may be the intended purpose but I have used it for both System Rescue CD and Bodhi Linux live systems and it worked fine.
Thanks, Richard

As far as I can tell, if it works with dd, it works with media writer
In general I find that "secure" flash drives do not boot as their firmware will not allow them to. Many simple data flash drives do however. I have had good "luck" shrinking the partition on the drive from the back leaving the "available" space on the top of the drive intact. Then I install whatever linux I intend to use on the available space thus created. These drives seem to work quite well. Many I have used thus for years.
Have a lot of fun!

You might consider getting an mgff M.2 ssd and appropriate USB converter box. I have booted to one to do my e-mail here and it is the only way I do e-mail. It makes me feel a bit more secure as the browsers and all are likely less contaminated by other than e-mail use. Same for Facebook and banking.
Have a lot of fun!
