I am planning some event for Fedora Women's Day in collaboration with local women's groups
What resources do we have for people who apparently don't want to be involved with computing?
One other question can be about portals that can be adapted by groups.
What do you recommend?

Probably a pre-poll to know which areas do the newcomers work or hang by could help to provide them some info about how Fedora can be useful to them. I have lawyers, doctors and more using Fedora and could gather some info.

didn't understand this one, could you expand?
What do you recommend?
I'll be helding as well a local event, hoping that we can all connect through hangouts or something similar

If too few people from computing are present in a NGO/ similar organization then they would be doing lot of work manually. To really expand operations they need to have a portal for both external and internal work. What can a feminist group use?

I'm not too good with english, but I'm gonna try to explain me. some girls doesn't like the computing world because they think that is only coding and code=difficult maybe sees like letters and numbers that are impossible to understand and takes a lot of years to learn. the other thing is girls are worried by make up, boys, relationships or things that all other people is doing because is easy. We need a beginners develop tools, like codecademy but on fedora. I saw a documental called codegirl. the most of girls groups coding with color blocks not really typing all lines of code one per one and she participated in events in San Francisco. perhaps something like these it's atractive for them if we do public events focused on girls (boys too if they want) and learing with us in that moment the feel the fun on this beautiful world. thanks and sorry for my bad grammar.
That's a fantastic idea Sara! (and your english is great)
I'm a geek female who barely code, but I'm into the graphic and translation world, have a geek husband who do code and we have a great relation where we even talk through irc (more than verbal). I find great the idea of showing girls that the IT world is more than just complicated code and, if they do like code, there are easier ways to start with that how we did years before.
I would also like to show that an IT women can also have a life. Many people think that It people gets stuck in a dark room without a life, which is really far from truth. Maybe some of us can share our experience of how we cope life with IT and communities so we can guide through example to those women who are initiating in this world.
It's fantastic to keep listening to so many great ideas! lets keep the work going!

Thanks for reply me :) It's a pleasure for me you can read me. We have the idea, but How show into the real life?? need a stand with some pc's with distros, talking to the people about it and all the wonderful things that they can do with distros and making code with electronics (like arduino p.e) maybe, we can start with lessons or something like this. (I saw a event only for girls around the country. Those girls learn another girls about ruby and make meeting on starbucks, I'll try to re search the punctual info I promise) My life is like that: only in my room, all day all night on weekends coding on arduino or playing on my lap haha and is not 'cause I don't like people it's only that I don't meet people like me (first, for my language and second anyone around me is interest on this things) I would like to go to some meeting if you do one :) i don't matter travel and lost in the way.
You would be surprised on how many people like you are :) And the idea of this kind of gatherings is just that, show us that we are not alone :)

The very idea does not work that way.
There are many categories of women with entirely different aspirations and goals.
One needs to target specific groups instead of attempting to cover multiple groups.
It is very easy to get students of computer science/engg interested
Teenage and pre-teen girls too.
But it is harder with the rest and especially those with other primary interests.
Much depends on their primary interests.

Lets remember this is not a FAD, so it's not an event specific to one single theme, it's a celebration of diversity.
Each location can cover as many topics as they want, and some general talks will be shared between them all, yet, if a location feels that the attendees are more into Programming, others more about design and some others plan to gather more new-IT people, then that's fantastic.
The more the merrier.

I am saying we need to work on ROI computations of many categories of women.
At least appeal with more power showcasing value of free software productivity tools for the non programmer/not-interested-in-programming categories.
How much of publicity tools do we have?

I think this is a great talking point for open source too. Especially with communities. Open source can provide experiences and opportunities to empower others to work together collaboratively and positively. I think the idea of open source can be a useful factor when discussing this with others in person and online.
