As every release goes end-of-life, we automatically close all of the bugs filed against it -- even if they're not fixed. As a user who went to the trouble to report a bug, this can be frustrating. We can explain why we do it, why it's still valuable to file bugs, and how to reopen bugs when appropriate.

I think is a great idea to write something about this.

I'm also in favor of seeing an article like this drafted for the Magazine, particularly if we could conveniently time it for the approximate time when the F23 bugs are closed for EOL. It also wouldn't hurt to get the usual F23 EOL article out on the Magazine too (we can bring this up during our meeting today).
Do we know of anyone who could write this who might be able to explain this deeper?

If nobody has thrown their hat in the ring yet, I'd like to volunteer. If you're okay with it, I'd also like to talk a little bit about why the kernel does something very similar for every major release (4.x -> 4.y). I can also do that as a separate follow on article if that gets too long.
Thanks, Laura

Sounds great! I think making the connection is interesting too.

This is the draft I came up with
https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=15874&preview=true&preview_id=15874
It make sense to have only a single line about the kernel because the reasoning was so similar. Feedback welcome!
Thanks, Laura

One difference between Fedora and the kernel is that package maintainers may not be experts in the code itself, and so may not be in a good position to resolve issues directly. Ideally, they'd help direct bug reporters to the right place to get the issue addressed (or even act as a go-between), but as you've said, with more users than developers the number of reports can be overwhelming....

This is an interesting topic, sorry to be late here. But I can't access the link shared, it says "Error 404"
Can you please fix that.
Thanks & Regards, Amita

This one should do the trick.

yeah thanks Justin.
Thanks Laura for writing, very neatly written. Some examples of what are general time lines of EOL in fedora and pointing some bugs may also help understanding the context more.
