Strange filesystem type behavior in rawhide

I had a raid container defined and then deleted it. However, the former members of the container continue to show as 'ddf_raid_member' as the filesystem type. I have deleted and recreated the partitions, formated them to ext3 and then ext4, all to no avail. They continue to show as 'ddf_raid_member' and wont't mount without -t ext4 provided. Once mounted they appear to be proper ext4 partitions. In addition, tune2fs -U random doesn't change the UUID which, for one, continues to show as "Linux-MDM-^M--M->M-o" for the two partitions exhibiting this strange behavior. Can anyone shed light on this? selinux=0 TIA

Erratic DNS failures in Rawhide

When I updated from F-11 to Rawhide, I started having serious and severe DNS failures. Enabling the nscd service seems to temporarily resolve these issues, but eventually nscd seems to die and DNS stops working. Some applications (e.g. chromium) don't seem to be suffering this fate, while others (e.g. firefox, thunderbird, yum) do. I'm pretty sure that glibc is to blame here, but I'm not even sure how to appropriately file this bug. Is anyone else seeing this? ~spot

Hey all, we'd like to announce the 'Fit and Finish' initiative for Fedora, http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fit_and_Finish with the goal to improve the user experience of the Fedora desktop. We want to identify the small (and sometimes large) roadblocks that make everyday computer use harder than it needs to be, and try to fix them. 'Fit and Finish' is meant to be complementary to the work of the Fedora QA team. They do a great job of ensuring the quality of all the new features that land in Fedora each cycle. But when features are developed and tested on their own, the overall experience of the system as a whole can sometimes end up a bit uneven and rough. 'Fit and Finish' will focus on improving the way our users experience Fedora. To achieve this, we will hold regular test days, each of which will focus on use cases in a certain area. A few ideas for test day topics can be found on the 'Fit and Finish' page already. If you have ideas for other areas that could benefit from this kind of attention, please let us know. Our first test day will focus on display configuration, and will be held on Tuesday, July 7, from 12:00 to 21:00 UTC (8am -> 5pm EDT), in the fedora-fit-and-finish irc channel on FreeNode. Here it is, dracut-0.3! Featuring booting from all kind of block devices, NFS, iSCSI and NBD. How to get started, if you want to test. # yum install dracut-0.3 To generate a initramfs image, run: # dracut <imagename> <kernel version> to overwrite an existing image: # dracut -f <imagename> <kernel version> Try to boot from that image by modifying /etc/grub.conf. Be sure to have a fallback entry. If you want to boot from network have a look at the manpage. Basically everything can be specified on the kernel command line. Bug reports can be send directly to me (harald(a)redhat.com) until dracut appears in the bugzilla component list.
