Hi,
I have a workstation and three laptops running Fedora Rawhide. I did my daily update just now (I point to the Kent mirror rather than the Fedora mirrors so as to ensure all machines see the same repository, it updates mid-afternoon +00:00). Workstation and two laptops upgraded fine. One laptop is having troubles with the packages:
gdm.x86_64 1:3.16.0.1-2.fc23 rawhide openmpi.x86_64 1.8.4-6.20150324gitg9ad2aa8.fc23 rawhide openmpi-devel.x86_64 1.8.4-6.20150324gitg9ad2aa8.fc23 rawhide
trying to install them causes yum to fail:
… Total size: 9.0 M Is this ok [y/d/N]: y Downloading packages: Running transaction check Running transaction test Segmentation fault (core dumped)
though I am, not sure where the core is dumped to, it isn't .
It happens if I do gdm individually, the other two enforce each other so come as a pair, and they have the same problem.
I have no idea how to work out what is going wrong here so as to fix it, this is clearly a fault on the one laptop.
Any help tracking this down would be most welcome…
Since yum is written in Python, here's something that might help you get started : https://docs.python.org/2/library/pdb.html .

Rawhide should be using DNF exclusively. Please try again using dnf and let us know the results from that.

Not really. yum is still present and expected to be used, no-one's expecting the world to stop using yum overnight. If segfaults are happening, it's a problem.
That being said, it's hard to tell much from just 'it segfaulted' - an abrt report would be better, if we can get one?

OK, I will investigate switching.

I "yum clean all", switched to using the repository pool, and got the new version of gdm installed. So I am not in a position to replicate it and get an abrt report. There is something wrong with the GDM installation though as although the screen appears any attempt to login just causes the greeter screen to reshow :-(
The openmpi packages still do not install but at least the Kent mirror is not reporting that although the package and metadata is in the repository, the post processed, installable RPM does not match the expected one and so installation aborts.
Using one of the virtual terminals or an SSH login I get:

Is there a way of forcing one to be triggered to get the data needed:

IMO it was an rpm issue. I manually upgraded to the latest rpm and deps from dl.fedoraproject.org and the issues disappeared.

This was actually an rpm bug and it has been fixed. Not all updates triggered the problem, so try updating or downgrading rpm* and then you should be OK.

Hi,
Perhaps it's not the same issue, but here some RPMs fail to install with either dnf or yum (running rawhide up-to-date i686). If I try to install the rpm file from /var/cache with rpm -ivh I also get a return status of 139. If I use more -v's I don't get anything, it just stops at "D: computing 326 file fingerprints". The rpm file I tried this with is fluxbox (it has all deps installed).
