try with 'vesa' or 'xdriver=vesa'. Sounds like a bug in nouveau. Are multiple monitors connected to this system?
I added both, no effect. Tried stuff like that before. The fact that this happens, as I reported, before any obvious attempt to run X, suggests this particular problem is unrelated to X.
Can't think what else it can be, but I can't remember if the language prompt is inside X or out of it, typically...anyone?
Skipping (or not skipping) the media check is in text mode. Then anaconda runs (announcing its start in text mode) and starts X. There's a do-nothing screen (Next). Then there's the language selection screen.
Alt-Fn or Ctrl-Alt-Fn should work at that point. In particular, F2 should be handy.
There's always "nomodeset" to try, too. Nouveau KMS is one of the objectives of F12 (isn't it?), but I don't know if it's been turned on yet.

Unless nouveau has screwed up so much (assuming it actually is nouveau) that the whole system's hung. that happens :)

er, i can't quite remember. he can always try it both ways - nomodeset will turn it off if on's the current default, nouveau.modeset=1 will turn it on if off's the current default. try both, see what happens :)

trying to install rawhide with default driver on nvidia ends on black screen. trying with safe video driver, starts gui (without mouse, but that's another story)
